The “oh they ignore my” thingy is BS they are very active in here, they get Steam crash reports and have to work on patches.
No developer would give you a “24h a day” personal nanny.
ATI Cards/Good Framete
Neither misinformation regarding Minimum System Specifications nor personal attacks are tolerated.
Progz, I would suggest lowering the resolution as a temporary workaround to increase performance.
I’m playing on 5850 @ low-rez and ultra ugly mode and I’m still nowhere near MP framerate. Is it tolerated to give useless advice?
actually its not a useless advice. you would know this if you tried lowering your resolution.
it runs a lot smoother. but the problem itself isnt fixed completely. in large areas you still have low fps, but at 1280x800 its at least playable most of the time.
looks ugly as hell but definetely makes more fun.
Note how Crispy said ‘temporary’…
They’re not ignoring you, just hang in there for a bit.
I won’t comment on how it looks for someone else and how they want to see the game.
I just like to play the game and strangely I am able to ; with a 4570 mobility card on my Dell studio laptop with the lowest resolution and some lags which I am not new to.
@The guy that emntioned 11.6
That’s Crossfire profiles isn’t it? @_@ not everybody has Crossfire you know… myself included. Yet I have the problem… and all my other games are fine.
Please tell me 11.6 will be more than just a Crossfire profile.
Update for ATI drivers coming tomorrow
“Catalyst 11.5a hotfix will be updated later to RC3 (tomorrow) - it fixes performance for Brink (single GPU)”
I run a AMD Phneom II X4 955 @ 3.84, with an ATI SapphireTech 5850. I get good framerates above 90 indoors all times, and rarly see less than 60 outdoors. I am using the 11.5a hotfix straight from AMD website, and I uninstalled all ATI drivers before installing the new one. Using the r_shadows 0
I also spent last night showing off the game to a buddy that is running an AMD Phenom I X4 940 stock speeds, with an ATI SapphireTech 3850, Using the r_shadows 0 we were playing at a stable 45-75 FPS on 11.5a hotfix from AMD website.
I built both machines from ground up, and installed all software. Everything is updated to latest drivers adn ran DXSetup and VCRedist.
I have that exact video card listed in the OP, the Sapphire HD5830. My CPU is a Phenom X3 720(stock). I just downloaded and installed the Catalyst 11.5a hotfix RC3 drivers and I can say that my problems with framerate are somewhat fixed. With everything at MAX settings my framerate is a minimum of 24 FPS and an average of 45 FPS. This is at 1360x768 resolution (fullscreen) because I play on my 26" HDTV that only supports 720p. With my performance config enabled(everything low or off and shadows off completely) my framerate hasn’t dropped below 45 and I have an average of 60+. Before I installed the 11.5a rc3 my framerate would constantly dip below 25 FPS(with some areas only giving me 15FPS) and would only average 40 FPS with my performance config enabled.
Now with that out of the way, I doubt the small performance gain you could get from jumping from a 5770 to a 5830 would be worth the cash. I’d wait for the Catalyst 11.6 drivers to be out before you abandon the 5770, and try the RC3 Drivers (LINK) in the meantime. Personally if I were to be upgrading my GPU right now, I’d be looking at the either picking up the 6870 or adding a second 5830 and running crossfire(which AMD/ATI doesn’t support for Brink yet)
Hope I helped.
I think you will find that this game is extremely cpu intensive, therefore a combination of a relativly powerful chip and decent graphics card is a must to achieve smooth frame rates with this game.
I am currently running a i7 2600k oc’ed to 5.2ghz and a crossfire 6970 with 12gig of ram and it runs without issues. 100fps+ all the time at 1680x1050 8xaliaing, 16xaa, indoors or outdoors, many objects on the screen etc. crossfire is not enabled with this game at the moment.
i also have a 3.33ghz core 2 duo with a 4870 1 gig and the more you overclock the cpu (4.3ghz in my case), the framerate increases dramatically
also keep in mind that as the drivers mature, their optimisations will improve performance, at the time of wriring i have the 11.5 cap2 profiles and the 11.5a rc3 drivers for my cards, so that is also something to consider.
if you are finidng that you are still having framerate issues, use the brink config tool (google it) to remove ao, post processing, shadows, particle effects, finally lower your resolution (in that order one by one) till you find a framerate that is acceptable to your level of play.
good luck.
Sorry if this is a hijack, but it is on topic…
I have a BFG 8800 GTX OC2 in my desktop but a terrible CPU. Does anyone know, is this still a good card? The framerate is awful in the game, I think mostly down to the processor (and old-style Pentium D). I’m wondering whether to upgrade the mobo/processor at some point, whether it is worth it with this graphics card…?

i just bought a 6950 and flashed it to 6970 with a 20% overclock (basically exact same as the more expensive 9650 now) and its not much better than the 8800gtx i replaced. sometimes i get decent fps and other times its lower. im looking at crap ATI drivers as being the issue. give it a few days.
did you get the config utility? you can turn loads of settings down that you cant in-game.
