ATI cards - a question regarding stability...

(Miniboss) #1

Started a new thread because my question isn’t regarding about how to fix the performance of ATI cards, I’m done with that.

My question is just how stable is the performance of the game for those people with high fps?

I’ve been through several drivers now from ATI, after experimenting I’ve eventually managed to get my fps from 20-40 up to 60-120 on a ATI 4850HD quad core machine (Not going to entertain people scoffing at the card, I can play Crysis 2 on a playable framerate on advanced setting so this game should at least give me a stable performance with everything on low).

My fps is fixed no matter what settings I choose. If I play high, shadows on, AO etc. I still get 40 to 100 fps as I would with low in the same places, however the performance does get worse and while my fps reads 60 it plays like its about 20.

So is this the same with all ATI users who are getting okay fps?

I’ve noticed the same thing: shadow and texture quality do nothing to effect fps. Motion blur occasionally lowers fps by 1 or 2, antialiasing costs around 5-15% of fps. AO costs about 5 fps. I got all of the lowering settings disabled since I still get 20-25fps lows, I would like to have at least 40 or 50 min fps.

I get 50-70 at 1680x1050 with everything off and settings on medium. If I goto 1920x1200 I get 20-30 fps. I have crossfire too and the second card is just completely idle. I haven’t tried lower resolutions, but higher settings do impact my framerate a lot. I haven’t tried higher settings since the gridding issue was fixed. Before this game was released I was in belief that my system would run it almost maxed. If crossfire ever gets working I hope that’s the case. Crysis 2 demo was playable for me as well. Any other game is maxed or one notch lower. I don’t have the 1GB version of the cards so sometimes I reduce textures in games like FC2 and Stalker3.
