ATI 5830 really bad frame rate needs fix

(Josh7331) #1

Here is my system specs
phenom II b25 3.2ghz quad core
ati 5830
6gb ddr3 1600mhz
650 watt corsair psu

I get a solid 25 fps during combat which just isn’t right. I’ve updated to the newest ati video drivers 11.5 updated 5/9/11 but still it persist.

In crysis 2 I get a solid 50 fps during combat and 70-90 out of combat.
In gta 4 I get 50-60 fps at all times.

I play with v-sync always off for all games.

I use FRAPS to see the frames per second.
Would appreciate it if the drivers got updated for the 5830 line of cards. My buddies have 5850’s and they had crap FPS before the 11.5 ati drivers then they got the newest drivers and they are soaring with 70 fps.

I’m inclined to think that 5830 didn’t get an update for Brink… Or something else is not adding up.

+1 Note I dropped down from 1920x1080 and then played at 1280x720 and only gained 8 fps

See if turning off Ambient Occlusion helps.

(Josh7331) #3

The testing was done with Ambient Occlusion off along with anti-aliasing, soft particles, motion blur, high quality post processing and vertical Sync. (everything was off)

Thats why my situation is a bit of a puzzler to me. It just keeps at 19-25 fps…

Shadow Quality was at medium and texture quality at high.

ATI 5750
Tried the Catalyst 3D defaults fix - didn’t work.
Comp crashes everytime I try to connect to online servers.
Even with all settings on low @ 800x600, terrible visual glitches everywhere.
I’ve only been able to play the challenges, but its nearly unplayable.
Haven’t tried rolling back drivers yet. Ill post if it works

Same issue on my 4890. Tried three sets of drivers including 11.5a and I’ve got everything at the absolute lowest settings. Framerate is <15 in-game and I’ve got the grid effect most other 4000 series users are reporting.

(Josh7331) #6

I’m going to rollback my drivers to 10.12 for kicks. I’ll report back here in a bit. I’ve also got 11.3 to try out.

Does the poor performance occur in both singleplayer and multiplayer? I know that in singleplayer (Solo or Private Co-op) currently you are locked at 30fps (even if fraps and com_showfps are showing more it still is 30 fps). Multiplayer does not have this issue.

Rolling back drivers didn’t help. Still at 19-25fps. 1440x900 If any of you guys want to play together on Steam send a private message, we could go get some challenges done.

Please use the above thread to report issues on 4xxx cards. This thread is specifically for tracking the issues on the 5830.

Have you tried the “Defaults” trick yet?

Even though x^inf mentioned it didn’t work for him, his issues are outright crashing and glitches and not the same. For ATI owners with just FPS issues (I have a 4850 1GB), this appears to work for some of them even if they had settings way low before. So far the counter is up to 9 people who have had their rates improve dramatically even though we don’t know why. Please report back!

I gave that a try earlier, no luck.

My best regards to those who have crashes. I might OC my gpu and see what happens.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback!

Son of a BRINK!

I was just trying out some old drivers with no success then I said “forget it” then got latest drivers from steam for ATI to just keep playing at 20fps since its a fun game.

THEN! The unthinkable happens!

I start Brink and my rank 7 character is gone! I have to start a new character!
I don’t know where character files are stored but this is just rubbish!

sigh this game is just giving me headaches!
