Assault Merc of Busting

(I-Fell-Tower) #1

Name: Goon

Role: Assault

Primary Ability; Bust Orb: Upon activation Goon takes out a basketball-looking orb and throws it in a quite heavy arc. Upon hitting a surface / an enemy the Orb busts like a balloon and slows down the movement speed of mercs in the AoE by 100% when it comes to one of the 4 movement directions. The closer the enemy is to the busting orb and the less the Orb has flown the longer the duration of the speed reduce is. During the bust period the reduce is lowered steadily from 100% to 0% returning the enemy’s busted direction to it’s normal speed. Once the Orb’s thrown a cooldown of 20s will start. Every time an enemy is hit with this Orb’s effect the busted direction is set to the newest one and many movement directions cannot be busted.

Secondary ability; Bust Switch: Switches the direction that the Orb will bust. The possible direcion options are forward, left, right and backwards. The switch takes up 0.45s.

HP: 110

Speed: 410

Arsenal: Goon’s default primary is the Thomas Cannon (you can look it up here: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/24564/recon-merc-of-deployables-bluff#latest). He can also carry the SMG9 and the KEK.
Secondaries? .40 (default), the Gaulden and the Simeon.
Melee weapons, Combat Knife as default, Stiletto and the Bat.

About Goon: Goon considered himself to be cool. Wanted to leave the States cuz’ fools. Packed up the gear and the tools and started to show some battlefield moves. He has a night-black tophat and a scarf, it looks like he about to starve. On the field he knows problems but no care, giving a damn when him is kinda rare. But if you see him where, are you gonna hide when there’s this guy who can take you outta once more?

Uses: Goon excels at making uncomfortable situations to the enemy. He can bust multiple enemies and slow their forward charging, slow their retreat speed to finish them off and create one painful situation if multiple ones like him are in his team. Can counter fast mercs (Kira, Proxy, Aura etc.) and other mecs really needing that stable movement speed.

Weaknesses and countering: Keep a distance. Goon’s Bust Orbs lose their effectivity at range and he shouldn’t be generally good against snipers (Vassili, Redeye, Arty). If you happen to be busted try to use your non-busted directions to their fullest potential.
And on top of that Goon’s weapons are outdamaged by ARs, his ability isn’t that frequent and his max health is a little bit lower than average.

so it’s an aoe slowing nade. - would require some testing: also, would multiple of the same mercs on a team have their effects stack like aura stations? things to consider: i’d make sure there were more downsides other than ‘keep away’

(HunterAssassin5) #3

Wait, aura’s heal stations stack? I didn’t know that.

Anyways, the orb could be useful when combined with a push or nade, but it’s highly dependent on cooperation with the rest of the team. Obviously, friends on teamspeak or whatever could do quite a lot with this, especially on pubs, but when playing with strangers and/or playing lone wolf, its effectiveness is limited.

The idea that the slowdown only works on one direction(wait…) is a little odd, though I guess slowdown in general might be a little too much, still, I think it would be better if say the focused slowdown is on W, A and D are also hit with slowdown but less so than W, and S gets hit with the least overall, something like that.

Also, how does the orb affect wall jumps and long jumps?

(I-Fell-Tower) #4

@Naonna No, the effect wouldn’t stack. Every time an enemy suffers the AoE “blast” the effect would be reset to the selected direction of the Orb. The cool-down was kinda short so I decided it would be better for it to be something like 30 seconds. Then I also thought of decreasing both the HP and the speed by 10 resulting in 100 max HP and 400 speed. This would make Goon statistically (got little Rhino flashbacks saying that…) worse than most mercs giving them an upper hand in a fight. This nerf to the idea is little bit like an opposite to Nader and her superior stats.

@TheRyderShotgun I get your points and you’re right; Dirty Bomb is all about cooperation but I still think that even alone this ability could be useful for the purposes I stated. Limiting enemy movement, making it more predictable, controlling it…
Goon could greatly turn the tables favoring him in multiple situations.
So if after some focused reading I got your idea it’s so that:
Forward key (W) would suffer the worst slowdown of it all (Let’s say 100% max)
Straifing keys (A and D) would suffer the second most (I thought of 70% max)
Then backwards moving would be kinda fast even while busted (40% could go on max)
Finally, if you would be going to the busted direction then your speed would be reduced, both in the case of long jumps and wall jumps.

That’s that.

okay then. the only question i have remaining is that why is the act of slowing down enemies called “busting”?

(I-Fell-Tower) #6

@TheRyderShotgun I thought of it as “busting” the enemies doing crimes like cops do so that they would be “surprised” and move little bit slower cause of that. Just a little bit of a wordplay.
