Aspect Ratio

(BaronBlabla) #1

I’m trying to build a modification for ET with a main focus on better appearing graphics. I’ve done some modding but never finished a mod. So now it’s time to do so. I do not know a lot of coding like C++ and stuff like that but I know partly how to modify some other scripts like .cfg and .shader.

As you may have seen in True Combat Elite 0.49 it has (as far as I remember) a forced aspect ratio of 16:10 (or 16:9, not sure). So even when you have a 17" 4:3 monitor you need to play with black area’s on your screen at the top and bottom, but not on a 16:10 one. I want to do this too but I have absolutely no idea how to do this. Any suggestions?

I think it might give me a lot of problems with all the other things in the game like hud and menu’s but I’ll find a way to solve it (I think).

I hope you guys can help me.

Oh and, by the way, excuse me for my English.

Baron

well in TC:E (0.49 and 0.49b) you can have a screen ratio of 4:3, you can set it in the system menu, it’s just that 16:9 is the default value

Yeah but how can I make it work that way in my mod?

(IndyJones) #4

maybe you can just add black stripes in hud, as image… ?

(stealth6) #5

there would be no point in that…

the idea is to get a nicer effect, on some screens the graphics are stretched, so just adding a strip top and bottom wont change the fact that its stretched

Use FoV 110 for widescreen monitors.
But the effect like in TC:E would be cool for ET.

What’s FoV 110?

(stealth6) #8

field of view, so how far you se around you, normally its 90

360 would mean you can see like a fish bowl, you can even see behind you, but for obvious reasons, this FOV is banned by pb.

(shagileo) #9

haha @ the fishbowl thing … never tried the 360 one out.

What’s the default maximum then of the FoV?

(IndyJones) #10

default maximum? i believe it’s 120, but this can be a banned cvar.

(stealth6) #11

just go to a non-pb server and tr it out, it’s interesting to see

For the record, you can set the FOV ratio by changing the cg_fov CVar.

Concerning 16:9 ratios, I believe there were some kind of CVars which set your screen width (at the the expense of stretching the HUD).

EDIT: See r_mode, r_customWidth and r_customHeight mentioned in will QW support HD resolutions 720p and 1080p?. Someone asked how to set it in W:ET, so there you go.

Ok, I got it. Now I want people to be able to set these values in the options menu… how do I do that?

So if they select 1680x1050 it should do:
/r_mode -1
/r_customheight 1050
/r_customwidth 1680
/r_customaspect 2
/cg_fov 100.39

and with for example 1280x1024 it should do:
/r_mode -1
/r_customheight 1024
/r_customwidth 1280
/r_customaspect 0
/cg_fov 90

and a final example:
/r_mode -1
/r_customheight 900
/r_customwidth 1600
/r_customaspect 1
/cg_fov 106.27

But how do I put this in the options menu??
