Is it possible to get a .ASE file ingame without 3DMax?
.ASE
ASE models can only be used as misc_model entities, which are baked into the BSP by Q3Map2. No Q3-engine based game supports loading ASE models natively, as far as I am aware.
If you need to create an ASE without 3DS Max, you have a few options. You can convert a BSP to an ASE with Q3Map2’s -convert option. You can also try Gmax or Milkshape, both free (or cheap) modellers.

I have milkshape and gmax, but I didn’t see .ASE in the import list of either. Did I simply not look hard enough or do I have to get a plugin?
[edit]I’m not sure if I fully understand,
I want to create a large canyon to fill up some dead space in my map, my brush count is already really high so I fugured I would make a model since the area is unreachable by players anyway. but Milkshape doesn’t do well for making really large models and gmax just hurts my head.
I want to make a .bsp of the canyon and turn in to a .ASE so I can add the canyon wall without adding anybrushes.
I was told that .ase files don’t retain texture info, that I would have to bring it into a modeling program, texture it and then put it ingame.
Am I correct in this?
ASE files retain all texture/normal/xyz information. You can use a -convert created ASE file in a new BSP right away.
