Arty's painting ability - Is it bugged or is it a feature?

Is it just me, or is it really frustrating trying to paint artillery on targets sometimes?

When painting with artillery, it seems like surfaces that are past 90 degrees are not paint-able (eg, the EV’s wheelbase)
Also, it seems like you must aim within the surface as you paint. For example, going from the side of an EV to the top of the EV will reset the timer.

I’m just curious if this is intended as is for balance or something

I agree. It should be more generous. Sometimes when you try to paint a wall a little bit of ledge sticking out is enough to turn it red. Its frustrating and clunky in combat.

This is one of the biggest problems arty has right now, it’s extremely clunky and annoying to use on some surfaces like the EV. Maybe tweak it so it doesn’t cancel as easily?
Also make the use time of the painter instant instead of this weird 0.3 second nonsense.

It should be hold for aim and when you let go it instantly fires. No more charging up because that screws up if you happen to even nudge a ‘red’ zone.

This is a really good idea, maybe have it so you have to hold it and click to fire it, would solve a lot of the issues.

That would be my preference. They can keep the charge time if that’s a balance requirement, so make it hold to charge and once charged, I’d like to be able to move the target area about and then release to fire or switch weapons to cancel.

^ I agree, not a huge Arty player but man, when I do, that Airstrike kicks me in the butt a lot. :frowning:

I love playing as arty, but you are correct that painting a target has its issues.

It needs to be similar to Naders launcher. Q to pull out of the painter and left click to launch(instantly) at your target(if a valid target location). It is almost impossible to use in a firefight and makes you a sitting duck for an enemy Vassili.

press ‘4’ to pull out the spotter, will work like nader’s ‘q’
