Arty's current state, what's your opinion on it?

What are you guys/girls opinion on him since the last patch? Do you think he needs more changes or is he in good enough shape right now?

i personally used to hate arty, but since i tried him two days ago he’s become my main merc until i get enough coins to buy fletcher.
I feel like Arty’s strikes finally have hit a pretty good spot, they are faster to use and since i can’t constantly use two of them instead of one on accident anymore it feels really nice playing him now.

Considering that I found Arty, balanced before this patch, and underpowered before the buffs he got, before openbeta.
He is definitive in a good spot now. Only thing is players that had problems targeting before, still have them (even more considering that the error margin for miss aiming is smaller now). Those that didn’t, didn’t need the targeting speed buff, really.

Higher damage/AOE is a buff I take no doubt. And the fact that you have to initiate a new targeting cycle is definitive a nice QOL buff. Even tho I must admit I’m so used to the old way that now I sometimes stand there infront of the EV and wonder when the second marker comes through forgeting that I have to click again, but I will adapt.

Strikes are much faster, which is great. He’s playable now.

Only thing that annoys me is that i sometimes can’t target the EV with the marker, forcing me to use it infront of the EV, sometimes limiting the damage i can do :confused:

I just started to use him since I kept seeing good players doing well in games. He is now my main go-to merc for completing “Support XP” daily missions, from previous Skyhammer.

If you compare him special to special with Kira then Kira wins easily. But Kira is also paper thin where Arty can take a couple more shots and if you know how to use the air strikes they can be pretty annoying to deal with even if they won’t get as many kills as easily as the beam. Especially if you know how to make the beam move where you want at a high rate of speed (takes practice).

I think Arty is in a much better spot than he was and might even be a hard decision for some people.

^^ what amerika said, Kira has the greater killing potential due to her speed, ammo station (doesnt have to waste time throwing herself ammo) and ability (laser). But kira will becoem to fragile against better competetion, indoors, and closer engagements. This is win you switch to ARTY. http://i57.tinypic.com/rrhzb5.jpg

They should remove the visible marker for the enemy and i’d find him balanced. And fix some of the spots on the maps where theres actually vision to the sky but you cant use his arty correctly.

Even before the patch I’ve liked Arty. Now he feels just right.

He’s useful and… crucial even! Most fun I’ve ever had in DB. My k/d’s have gone from mediocre to epic. Feels like I found “my merc” after his buffs. I’m very pleased with SD’s decisions in this case.

Yeah arty is pretty good right now after the increased artillery damage and radius. My favorite fire support with his combination of high hp, ammo packs, precision weapons and his ability to wreck the EV every 40 seconds. At least until they put stoker back in.

I’ve bought him yesterday and I’m positively suprised.

All this time I tought that he is a “chinese knockoff” of Skyhammer. But he is not. Arty and Skyhammer are like Nader and Fragger. Fragger/Skyhammer has a strong ability with a long cooldowm, while Arty/Nader has a weaker version that can be used much more often.

I like mercs that can use their abilities often so I immediately liked Arty. I enjoy playing him more than Skyhammer, despite not not beeing all that proficient with his weapons. I’m OK with BR-16 because I had some training with Kira.

his ability being so spammable is one of the main reasons i love him, knowing where to aim it can get you some kills and he’s pretty good at destroying the EV too :smiley:

Always found Arty incredible fun to play in pubs, won’t be playing him seriously though since fire support mercs such as Kira and Skyhammer are still far ahead.

An interesting detail is Skyhammer does say “here comes the hammer” sometimes, which is also the nickname for the GBU-27. If we were to give him a GBU-27 lookalike, then he would effectively get the same ground covered by his damage, but just in a circle and not a straight line. The Arty could get something similar to Skyhammer’s strikes, but less powerful. I wouldn’t even mind if he literally got Skyhammer’s ability in designator form.

Now, I actually do like Arty at the moment, as he does depend on map knowledge so he thus has a high skill ceiling. A good spot that I don’t think many know about is on the Attacker’s side of Underground. You stand on the roof on your side of the hole and point at the ground outside the Defender’s entrance. If you get a strike in, you will usually kill most people trying to retake the site which leads to some hilarious team wipes.

Still, there’s so many possibilities with him.

I liked arty before the patch, now he feels really balanced, and actually a viable threat to face against. There are some spots I know where people think they are safe form everything, but then they get blown to bits by an artillery strike. If you know how to use him, it works really well.
