Would like the Devs to investigate changing the marshmallows to be flaming marshmallows.
My idea to fix his artillery strike would be to give it more sustained output for area denial. As it stands right now its just a grenade that doesn’t work indoors. While there are two classes right now that can call fire from afar Skyhammer clearly outclasses Arty because of the size of the strike. While buffing the AOE of Arty’s strike might also be a fix i think it would detract from the identity of Skyhammer. If Arty had a sustained barrage of mortars, say 5-7 seconds or so, that would make him a more unique mercenary and help define his role on the battlefield.
I’ve been playing with Arty a lot. Honestly, I think it’s fine. You get two airstrikes that deal decent damage. Compared to the other mercs, his ability may be a little weaker, but considering that most other mercs need some tweaks (nerfs), Arty’s fairly balanced.
Nerfing the obviously OP stuff first would make more sense. Stuff that seems underpowered now may actually be balanced is what I’m trying to say.
There was never a point I’ve seen anything as OP except for the amount of health one can gain quickly with Aura’s healing station, what I really think Arty should have is an actual salvo for every call down, you mark and in your marked area 3 artillery shells hit around the one area rather than a single bomb maybe give him more call downs, 1-2 more so if one were to call in multiple shots I’d be like Skyhammer’s airstrike but all in one single area.
This is going to be stereotyping it so apologize if some of you found it offensive, but my opinion on Arty is he’s nothing but a Chinese knockoff of Skyhammer.
After playing Arty a lot more I’m actually enjoying the class style. When i started i was aiming at the spot on the ground for my artillery strikes and this meant i was often shot… a lot… Started playing again and realised I can get artillery strikes halfway across open maps by pointing at objects over walls. Also use the 3 burst rifle it’s the only way haha. Aside from the fact that it’s useless indoors and has some janky cases where you’re trying to find a spot to point your lazer i actually think it’s fine. A slightly more sustained area of denial might be niced but would have to be balanced with longer cooldowns.
Crazy idea: Right as Arty completes locking in a position, have the actual marker “snap” to wherever the nearest enemy (within a limited distance) is standing at that moment. (There’s still the usual delay before the attack lands.)
What does this do? It lets Arty force enemies out from cover, dislodging enemies who are behind walls or thick crates, forcing them to move or take damage.
Don’t change the visuals seen by Arty as he’s sweeping the designator around–we don’t want players to use it as a person-detector–just tweak the landing-point for the shells.
