Argh I'm blind

(Violator) #1

There is a serious issue with Thunder’s concussion grenade - no matter where it lands if you are looking at it you will be blinded by it - even if its half way across the map. If you look away you will still be blinded depending on the angle you are facing it. This is making it almost unusable :(.

Turning a full 180 degrees seems to protect you from being blinded.

(spookify) #3

If I go 360 degrees I’m not fully sure what happens but my screen goes completely white!

All Joking aside something is up. I discribe what is happening to me here

Updated OP with video evidence. In the last part you see that I am partially blinded even though the nade lands out of sight round the corner to the right of the Aura player.

(spookify) #5

It blinded your butt haha!

Looking away from the Concussion Grenade will produce a much weaker effect where you can still see. A micro-flash will also reflect around corners a tiny bit as well, much like some other games.

From the first clip though I am concerned that you were apparently flashed through geometry, also at that distance the flash should be much, much shorter than what you received. It’s almost as if the server though the Concussion Grenade detonated right in front of you…

(spookify) #7

Exactly!

Distance seems to be bugged
and
Geometry seems to be bugged

why not just drop self flashing completely? or severely reduce it? it really wontmake thunder OP but he’ll be so much more fun to play and a little closer to fragger in power lvl.
that or drop cooking time to 1-1.5sec

I haven’t had the time to play today so I can’t really provide founded knowledge on that matter, but that just seems like a horrible and also quite illogical idea. As I understand it, that guy acts as the bullet magnet of the team, so he runs into the enemy crowd and then drops the nade? Rendering all enemies completely useless he just stands in the middle of enemies and can spray their brains all over the place with the neat little thingy he carries around.

You say that would bring him closer to Fragger, but Fragger also dies from his nades…

This is exactly what is happening - and I’ve thrown it much further than that video and still been full-white blinded by it, yet am not blinded by other player’s nades nearly as much even at near point-blank range. It seems to behave like the old Doom BFG :). It always feels like the light-part explodes right in front of you, but the concussion part is accurate - you won’t be dazed if it detonates far away but you will always be blinded if it lands in your field of vision.

In the second part I was around the corner and facing the opposite wall so shouldn’t have had any flash tbh - it was like it was raycasting through the wall to the right, or was it just bouncing off the bottom wall and the then the wall I was facing, in which case the walls aren’t made of polished silver and shouldn’t reflect that much :).

I can confirm that this type of thing happens all the time and conc nades tend to ignore some walls (like those big screens on chapel). Turning away from your own flashes doesnt seem to do much either.

(PixelTwitch) #12

How do you take Mercs out of the game to work on them and still have it so stuff is broken as hell…

(Szakalot) #13

how are you still here? : P

(Smooth) #14

Confirmed, the flash effect isn’t being affected by distance like it should be in this build.

A very last minute bug that made it in and snuck under the radar, sorry :frowning:

(Runeforce) #15

I’m glad it’s a bug. I suppose flashing friendlies with friendly fire disabled on pubs is also a bug?

(PixelTwitch) #16

Just about to post about the same thing…

So thats…

1, Hitting though walls
2, Flashing team mates
3, Something wrong with distance
4, inconsistent destruction of deployables.

AND I think there is a problem with a prolonged half flash… Had it happen a few times for 3-5 seconds of grayness.

(Rostrum) #17

I’ll answer your bugs one by one:

  1. Hitting through walls - Are they specific walls which the flash is going through? it could be a certain type of material or box collision on those walls causing it to go through.
  2. Flashing Team Mates - This is an intended design as it happens in most other games which have those types of grenades. However I think it is made worse by point 3. with the distance issue so it happens more frequently to team mates.
  3. Would you be able to elaborate on the inconsistency of the destruction of deployables? e.g which ones are causing you to think there is inconsistency?

We will have a look at the half flash issue, could be related to point 3.

Thanks for you feedback so far, it has been really helpful.

This point is fairly illogical, if I may put it this way. That extends into the category of friendly-fire which isn’t enabled. If teammates aren’t affacted by any other weapon, why are they affected by the flashbang?

White Chapel - Road Sign things
Terminal - Box looking thing right next to Flag Cap

Friendlies are intended to be still affected with FF OFF just to a much lesser extent than they are right now due to a couple of issues.

With FF ON they will be treated the same way as enemies.
