I don’t now a theme for my ET map, if I start making one…then after a week I stop with it, I need some inspiration!
arg, I don't know what to make
yes this is a popular problem. when i started mapping i made a map of my school and dumped it before anybody(except my clanmates) tried it)
now i make prefabs etc. but im currently working on a big outdoor map made out of 2 sections.
the best inspiration can be gained by seeing some cool pics/maps/plans etc
maybe smb in ur clan can help you.
well if your having problems coming to a map then its a bad idea to be asking other people for ideas since you would be more completed to bring and idea of your own to completion rather than someone else’s
there are lots of ways to get idea for map. you can look at specially WW2 battles and maby distort some kind of objective from that. usually it can be easier to think up a cool map objective then a map usually falls around it rather then thinking up an entire map then trying to make a fun objective inside it
if you find that you are stopping working on a project 2 or 3 days after you start and find that the initial flare that was there is gone and you cant relay see how you though your idea was any good remember. that you idea is always going to be the 100% perfect version on your map and 2 days into development you not going to have archived anything relay to the standard and is likely that the brushes you lay down now will be re arranged and replaced later in development
another good way to see that you stick to a project is to put a lot of planning into a project before you start. Get yourself a small notebook and whenever an idea (no matter how vague) comes into your head for a map get it down. a few lines for an objective and a simple sketch. When you look back over them its clear what ones are good and bad without having the initial exitment of coming up with the idea interfering
and when you finally have you best idea spend at least a week just drawing sketches. More detailed objective descriptions and things. As you go over you start to get a better layout and re aranaged things that end up in a much better layout that you first though of. If after a week or two your still sketching and developing this idea then its pretty certain that its a good one and not an idea you will lose interest in withing 5 minutes
only other thing i can think of is draw yourself a basic list of development task for the near development of the map e.g. when your first starting you want to get the layout done, basic brushwork etc. this means that on the third day when you come back to your map you have a task and will keep you focused on the map
try thinking about it this way
you’re setting out to make an environment that you would like to go into and want to get into
- so where would you like to go?
big space - small space, light space - dark space, ugly space - beautiful space, under a mountain - on a mountain…etc
Well - probably no help whatsoever but hey
not really a problem dude, just remember some of the great maps and first person games uve played and try to adapt it into your map. i also STRONGLY advice you get high on something
Just an idea cuz I pitched this as im a newb mapper.
A map where Axis escort a Hanomag halftrack w/ Pak 40 to an Allied compund and blow open gates and steal Allied experimental Heavy Water plans.
Some nice sniper spots, maybe a Mg42 at some checkpoints where the Hanomag has to stop.
Allies try to stop at bridge, bunker, etc.
yes it helped, but I am thinking of a place with a lot of landscape and that’s difficult to make, maybe someone has A new downloadable version of a landscape maker???
Just make a load of prefabs then look at them all, thats what i did, then i started putting them together making a building… Adding things to blow up…
yea and watch discovery channel or sth. i sometimes get good ideas for models and maps.
BaronBlaBla you can make landscapes by different ways
There are terrain makers - easygen
FATE
by hand
I made little help on easygen using here - videotutorial http://www.wolfenstein.cz/download/download/esgtut.rar
Hope that helps
If this can help you that can be a good map.
You’ve a story, a pre-map , and lots of informations for context .
Hope taht’s can help you.
Well IF you want, you can end my map, because it doesnt work on my own radiant, re-texture it and end or re do the modelling.
All files that i made are there…
You can laso rename it! (name sucks)

(remember to download the script too!)
I came up with this idea when I heard that Raven Software, which is near my house, would accept mappers if they made a good map using the engine ET uses.
Of course, it has to be an SP map, so my plan evaporated.
There’s a fortress off the coast of Helsinki, Finland called Suomenlinna/Viapor/Sveaborg.
It’s 1939, and the Winter War (between Russia and Finland) is starting. Russian commandos try to capture the fortress in order to cut off Helsinki from shipping (and thus foreign aid/arms/fuel/food) by seizing Sveaborg. Each island has a flag that has to be taken in order by the Soviets.
The Wikipedia has links to some excellent maps, and Google Earth/Maps has good photos of it.
yeah i would like to play it. can do some war against those soviet scum.
btw what idea have u selected?
that happened to me with my two first maps
what i did is telling my clanmates about my new project, so they give me suggestions, etc, and that makes me stick to the project,
make something realistic with rubble and destruction and smoke and crap war doesnt look like Goldrush, war looks like Xposed or Exodus…
look at what a war zone should be—

get my point?
aim for realism aim for something new!
