Area portal causes HOM effect

Hi everyone,
i am making a map for Jedi Academy and I get a nasty ingame error… :frowning:
first a scetch of my map/problem area:

RED = room/area border
YELLOW = area portal
GRAY = func_door

now my problem:
area portal number 1 (“AP#1”) works fine but area portal number 2 (“AP#2”) doesn’t.
i get a HOM effect in the next room, even if the door is closed :eek2:

i dunno what i did wrong… the area portal brushes are textured with skip except one side… i searched for an hour to find any hints or solutions and the only thing i found was a Quake2 tutorial… here (point 3 on the list)
but i dont want to change the doors position or anything on the map so there must be a solution/explanation…
i really hope someone can help me with that, thanks in advance

I don’t think you should use skip with areaportals. Use skip only with hint.

I’m pretty sure a single face textured with Areaportal on a skip brush is the right way to do it with q3map2.

Double check that the areas are all sealed properly, no vis-blocking brushes accidentally made detail, no non-solid shaders etc.

You could also try repositioning the brush slightly, might be a goofy interaction between the areaportal and a cut from another structural brush.

problem solved, though i dont really know what the problem was…
i changed the skyboxes (all areas ware in the same skybox) now i have to skyboxes and everything works fine :slight_smile:
