Are there Bots in the game?

Crozzton made a passing reference to being tired of playing against bots. Was he talking about the challenges or are there bots in the “random opponent” games as well? I’ve just assume the really bad matches I’ve had were just really bad players.

On the other side, are bots supported/allowed in the game? Is there a RADbot API?

There’s a spattering of players with garbage names who will do things like start 26 point matches with 2 soldiers and then not move or do anything, or some that will just sit around and damage themselves. They accomplish nothing and their very existence is a mystery.

Whether they are actually bots or just misguided people is unknown.

The names sound like someone “just checking it out without commitment”. New players don’t know anything about the point system so they immediately jump in over their head in a 26 point game. Besides, they’re “just checking it out”. Finally, you have to have played a little to understand what an orphaned game does to the other guy. Someone “just checking it out” doesn’t understand the courtesy of finishing or maybe doesn’t care. Bots would act better than that. After all, by definition, the challenges use the equivalent of bots. Those players pass my Turing test.

I meant real bots (programmed software agents that “play” the game). I would not be surprised if the devs had bots for testing. I’m just curious.

I think some of these guys just don’t understand the Squad Point system. I have found that if I turn three of my five toons around and make them stand in the corner most (but not all) of these players are happy to fight a two-versus-two battle and it normally goes quite quickly. It’s possible that they stop playing games because they can see that they have no chance but, given they don’t understand the Squad Point system, they probably don’t know how to quit a game either.

Once we get rudimentary chat in the game it may be possible to tell them to stick to 14 point games, although language barriers may make that tricky.

My thoughts on these opponents (sitting in the back doing nothing) was the following: I think they’re opening 20 games and then just skip all turns. They still get some xp and a little money. At lower levels you could easily level up like that.
Not sure, it’s just my way to make sense of this behavior. I don’t understand why you would play a game without the fun of actually playing, but then again there are just a lot of weird people out there…
