are there any GTK Radiant FAQs?

(Nexus242) #1

hello,

is there a dedicated site for frequently asked questions and for not so frequently asked questions for all the radiant map making programs? if there is, please share

thank you! it will be a huge help to all new, stuck and maybe for some experienced mapers.

There is manual included in GTK Radiant and also some tutorials

here nice tutorials http://www.surfacegroup.org/tutorials/

                     http://www.pythononline.co.uk/et/tutorial.htm

here is splashdamage tutorials links page - some tuts and problems that are not discussed nowhere http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1270

(Nexus242) #3

Thanks Kic but wouldn’t it be nice to find all the information you are looking for in one convinient place.
that tells you everything there is to know from start to finish and doesn’t assume as much as possible.

(Destroy666) #4

Just start with pythononline tutorials. That are the easy-explained basics you need to know. To finish? There is no finish of knowledge at all.

(Nexus242) #5

yes, i know there is no end to knowledge at all, if you look at it at a scientific way. but anyway i know my basics and i am somewhere in the between. the masters of mapping should join forces and make the bible of map making in one site, dont you agree?

btw, how to make terrain?

(stealth6) #6

SD forums is the bible

terrain: cut square brushes into triangles with clipper tool, then drag vertexes.

(Kic) #7

This is all what you need
splashdamage links for tutorials http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1270
this is basic you are searching for - problems such hints, area portals, movers , tanks and more

(Nexus242) #8

but stealth isn’t there some sort of program/plugin that makes terrain building easier?
thanks again Kic, that link should keep me busy for a while.

can you make a construtible thing without scripting? I did it with dyno stuff.

(Kic) #9

Terrain can be made by easygen , GTKgensurf ( included in GTK Radiant 1.4 )and handmade
here is some tutorial about handmade terrain http://www.simonoc.com/pages/articles.htm
about easygen search on up in tutorials and et mapping resources http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1270&page=4
If you will search you will find also tutorial for GTK Gensurf

(Kic) #10

Nexus I am also recommending you to download EB map tutorials in pk3 .
And I think yes constructible things can be made without scripts with script mover or something like that
Please search for EB map tutorials in map file - pk3 - I think that they are in www.enemyterritory-stuff.net

(Nexus242) #11

Thanks alot Kic!

now i have even more tutorials to look at, but i do have NSFAQs. such as how do you make misc_gamemodels cast shadows and how to make a captureable spawn like in railgun, the depot yard.

http://games.chruker.dk/enemy_territory/scripting_reference.php

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GtkRadiant

not sure if any of those have been mentioned

(Nexus242) #13

thanks for all your help, this will keep me busy for a long time.
my maps have improved dramatically in the past 3 days from basic blocks to a world other than blocks.

thanks!

P.S.
if you look through the sever selection menu of ET and see the server name ^1GTK ^7Radiant ^1 1.5MAPS
you can join in the near future once i have made a decent map (with or without objectives)
