Are Rankings Pointless?

I had to stop lurking just to pose this question. I realize the game is in BETA, and is still relatively new… but ranks seem to be, in effect, pointless… BECAUSE it doesn’t seem like competitive mode matches you against similarly ranked opponents. For example, I’m silver 1 - but it doesn’t seem like I get matched to other people who are also in silver. You get unranked people, you get over ranked people. If ranking up or down is based on wins, rather than points, AND competitive mode does not match you against same-league-opponents you don’t really have a lot of control over the outcome of your match. I mean hell you could be a beast and totally carry you team and STILL lose. So does anyone know more than I (which is basically nothing) about how the ranking and competitive system works?

I believe this is directly related to the number of people searching at any point in time. Not sure if the matchmaking prefers to pair with similarly ranked players, but I do know that a 5 man premade of Gold V and better still catches a lot of unranked opponents.

Id wager that it is simply because the ranks are fairly new. Most people have no ranks and at any given time there might not be enough players of your skill, right now.

This will solve itself over time when more people are playing have gotten their rank.
