I was kinda thinking the same thing because it’s essentially adding something to the game itself, fundamentally the same idea of graphics configs or “modding”. But idk, it’s Dirty Bomb.
Nope, they have said you won’t get banned for them. I use one all the time
However, as stated by Shoe this evening on stream (and summarised here), some users have reported the anti-cheat kicking them for using it, while others say it is fine.
Right now it’s a bit of an unknown issue and being looked into. Honestly, you should be fine to use it though.
It should be. It’s a third-party-advantage = a cheat. And cheats should be bannable.
I don’t see how it’s an advantage. Its really just a tweak for preference. Its the same thing as modifying my HUD or even taping a dot to my screen in my humble opinion.
Oh give me a break. Just because the crosshair options for DirtyBomb suck in variety doesn’t make other crosshairs a cheat… They don’t magically improve your aim. That’s pretty silly. All they do is add variety to a place that should have a bit of variety by default.
Hmmm… using a multi-programmable high resolution fast tracking game mouse could be bannable. What if my pointer was interfaced with an eye tracker? Will looking at the targets make me suspicious? I must try using a trackball or glide pad.
hahaha, ok
Do you understand why people would even bother going to all that effort for a crosshair?
SD lack of action on this issue is inexplicable. Or perhaps it’s the case that in the 21st century making new crosshairs is as challenging as making new maps.

While I agree that any “third party advantage” should be ban-able, Splash Damage have said themselves that crosshair customisation is a planned feature, just not on the list of priorities right now, and thus they have granted permission and stated it is allowed for people to use custom crosshair overlays as a placeholder until such a feature can be implemented.
since anyone can tape a dot onto their screen (like people did in QW back when 3rd person vehicles view didnt have xhairs), this cannot be forced, so no point in banning.
And like someone pointed out: its a crosshair
and people tend to widely exaggerate its effect. Like it? Use it. If not, you dont miss much
It does give you an advantage no matter how you look at it, you will get a crosshair in ADS which you won’t get by using dirty bombs crosshairs.
Type showhudcentre (not a typo) into the console. BAM, crosshair that shows in ADS from inside the game. Would you look at that!
@magnoliaToucan Here you go, just follow this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=470015172

I tried this and it drew two lines that span the whole screen and intersect at the centre point.
It’s a crosshair. [/quote]
Yes. But everything starts with the smaller things. Know it from another game: Overlay crosshairs mutated into overlay radar and overlay ESP hacks. People will justify things with “it’s only a crosshair”, but why using a custom one? Right, because it’s better or more convenient than the default ones. Or do you get a custom crosshair only for the sake of haging a fancy one?
A built-in function to change crosshairs, yes. Third-party-shit, Nope.
