Are missions a burden to you?

I know, missions are supposed to be good, you do this and that and you get $$, that helps a lot when it comes to the poor economy of this game.
But are they designed properly?
I find them really frustrating, because they are not something i can do along my normal game play.
I often have to abandon my team, doing secondary objectives, or pushing the EV among 4 different people with no meaning at all, except to do my missions, or run like an idiot with the ammo packs to everyone just to finish my support role i never wanted to play.
I often play an hour or 2, then take a break, so basically i always have a missions in my counter and most of them are really annoying, not allowing me to choose how i want to play. Obviously i can simply abandon them, but the income in the game is very, very low already.
Don’t you think that having a choice wouldn’t be better? If those missions would be more general? Like play with X in your squad, play stopwatch, play objective, win stopwatch, get X xp etc?

It can be absolutely get annoying to play as a merc you do not want to for a role you never signed up to do simply for the credits you need. But again it helps players broaden their horizon and try new mercs all the time instead of playing their one favourite. But I’ll say right now, if they do make missions more general they should avoid any “Win” missions since these can be the most frustrating of all or the easiest, it’s dependant on so much that you have no control over which is poor design in the first place. This can also be seen with Secondary Objective missions because it can be difficult to do this legitimately(Of course there is an easy way around it and that should be fixed but right now it’s the best way to do these so you’re not stuck on it for possibly hours).

Having something like Total XP missions, or Play X Stopwatch/Objective Matches are quite preferable alternatives, even the ones which you just need a specific merc in your squad(Usually I just keep one slot free for whoever I need it to be in case of such missions).

Abandoning missions is always there but then obviously you miss out on credits that you may desperately need, and you’re not guaranteed to get a better mission next time around. But there really are not many ways to improve this system.

No, since I am a person who plays the game and isn’t bound to death to some mechanics. If I do them, I do them, if I don’t want to, or don’t have time for them, I ignore them.

I honestly just wish they would allow us to pick from a pool of missions and randomize the value of them (since they seem to want that in there). Like, let me pick one particular merc mission, one XP mission and one complete X mission. I know the mission system is designed to try and put people in a position where they might play something they normally wouldn’t but that is a double edged sword and I’d rather be given a choice rather than be forced.

The ones involving secondary objectives are currently failing me. In the event I am an Objective Specialist, accomplish a secondary objective and die immediately, it won’t count at the end.

Absolutely agree, the main problem I’ve faced in this game is players playing for their missions and not the game, they will do things that are uncooperative to the team in order to get credits and I’ve done it too. It distracts us from having pure fun when we are determined to get credits for mercs… and then we have to not play those mercs to do missions.

(neverplayseriou) #7

I just wish they would stop giving me missions only worth 500 credits :stuck_out_tongue:

(xzez) #8

missions are about the only reason i play the game. The normal credit rate is so low it’s not at all worth it. The secondary obj mission is a poison of the game, that one is just a synonym for ‘find a server playing underground’.

(neverplayseriou) #9

@xzez I do hope you’re also playing the game cause it’s fun not just for completing missions xD

(Yes) #10

Nope, I just get them by playing. The only one I go out of my way to complete is the side objectives one, but using the elevators isn’t too bad.

(S3nf) #11

I’m really fine with missions since they last changed it, appart from competitive missions.
It used to take me about 2 hours per mission cycle, now with those lowered Xp missions I do them within 30-60 minutes max.
Yes, “Job on the side” means finding a server playing underground / voting for it but then its mostly done. If there arent 2 or 3 other people on your team trying to accomplish the same ofc. Or just play Proxy and be faster than every other engi on your team

Generally just find out who is your favourite Support/Combat/Engi and do those missions with them while you just carry the merc the missions wants you to play.

Im fine with missions http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=509995620

(Eox) #12

Most of the time, no, as I get them just by playing. Actually the only mission I never do is the competitive mode one.

#13

Ride the elevator x times.

(Ghosthree3) #14

Not really. I have everything so I just complete them at my leisure now and only delete competitive ones.

(Fiktio) #15

I also delete those competitive missions, but otherwise I may complete some missions if I feel like so.
The thing is, if I play normally, I will get some credits anyways. Those missions are only an extra for me. I may complete them sometimes, but for me they are only an optional thing, nothing else.

(SteelMailbox) #16

Waterboy and comp missions are but others are not so much

(Mister__Wiggles) #17

Missions need tweaking no one will argue with that. BUT they are so important when it comes to credit grinding, my big problem is with the, ‘get X amount of xp with said merc’ you should never be forced to play with a merc that you don’t like or use regular. I once had 3 missions like this with redeye, vasili and aura…Fair to see I was a big help to my team.

(RyePanda) #18

So, will missions not count during private matches? Because they could be completed really easily if they are active during private matches.

(Nitronik) #19

Secondary Objective and play / WIN comp (especially the latter) are the ones I dislike the most

(watsyurdeal) #20

Personally I just dislike the merc missions, I think we’d be better off with missions you can do with almost any merc. Support xp, objective xp, combat xp, headshot kills, etc
