Was wondering if it’s like with recent DICE games where you preorder and get certain unlocks right away but if you don’t order them at a specific place you can unlock them later? Both the the revolver and especially the MP7 look great but I already preordered at Amazon a while back.
Are exclusive weapons timed exclusives?
Looks like no one knows for sure what’s about with the statement of exclusive and unique, since we’ve seen other pre-order games bonuses becoming unlocks and DLCs after game release, while some other games do what the words mean.
My bet is that many players will whine about not being able to have those guns and skins, so… either way the game will have those available by unlock or DLC. This is where I bet not how I wish it should be . . .
Exclusive and Unique should be one time only availability thing, no second chances!
Personaly, I’m buying the pre-order twice for several reasons:
- I’m a huge fan of Splash Damage, so I’m glad and proud for supporting them
- I’ve got 2 steam accounts and 2 PCs at home
- I want a boxed version of the game for off-line use If I want/need to
- I’m hoping to be able to set up my private dedicated server
- I will borrow the game to friends and family so they can have some fun with me, just for a try
I wish to Brink to become a big Hit and what it must be accepted as… a triple AAA Platinum IP that is going to change how the market approaches the genre
:stroggtapir:
I’m thinking about buying the game twice also, for my steam account so i can get Spec ops and from amazon for my xbox so i can play with my friends and look awsome in the psyco tat

That’s ****ing stupid. And it’s not whining, it’s showing genuine concern. I want to support them too but there are other games out there whose developers I want to support. I have limited funds so I can’t buy multiple copies of every game. Which is why in protest of this BS I’m actually going to buy a used copy so I wouldn’t feel like a whore in the middle of a marketer’s orgy who’s forced to foot the bill.

There’s nothing stupid in believing that “exclusive” items, should truly be exclusive.
Don’t whine and complain because you have limited funds and because of this, feel as tho you (and others) should be entitled to these items through alternate methods, when others had to meet specific criteria to obtain them.
Also the game will be locked to a Steam account, and therefore you won’t be able to lend it to people to try.

Actually, it is retarded to believe that “exclusive” items are anything but a marketing ploy to build a relationship between retailer and publisher. It wasn’t the developer’s choice in the least bit. It is not meant for the consumer’s benefit and supporting these kinds of advertising tactics just exposes yourself for the easy to manipulate dumbass bent over ass cheek spreading degenerate sycophant you really are.
Uh… the vast majority doesn’t have the funds to buy multiple copies of one game. That is exactly why you feel that you need to do so to support the developer. Or are such simple concepts of economics completely lost on you? That is why if you put this kind of bull **** to a vote the majority would vote against it. It’s just that the masses are too stupid and defeated to believe they can actually do a thing about anything.
Case in point.

In a competitive game that prides itself on balance and teamwork you’re damn right exclusive weapons are stupid, I can’t comprehend how any intelligent person looking for a fun balanced game can think otherwise.
You don’t know that weapons are exclusive. I’m going to assume until I see differently that the weapons in the packs are purely skins.
we’ve had this discussion already, didn’t we?
result: nothing but a lot of broken hearts…
Case in point of what? If you don’t want exclusive content buy the game from a retailer that doesn’t provide any. Saying you’re going to buy it used as a “protest” just says you’re happy to take and play the game but not give the developer anything in return. That just sucks.
And what if the pre-order weapons have the same stats as weapons in the retail release? OMG, imagine that…
Even if they had unique stats, as long as they don’t offer anything other weapons don’t already offer, they would stay completely balanced. And besides, if you are talking about “true” competition, leagues would have them disabled anyway, along with many other features in the game, so you’re not missing anything.

You must have missed what I said earlier, let me post it again for you.

I never said anything about thinking they are exclusive, only that there is nothing wrong with people believing they should be.
Uh… the vast majority doesn’t have the funds to buy multiple copies of one game.
Your point?
That is exactly why you feel that you need to do so to support the developer,
Maybe that is why you feel the need to do - I just see it as offering different choices to consumers that want it. If people want to buy more than 1 copy, then they will do so, and it will be their choice.
I know a bunch of people who are buying multiple copies of this game, and not one of them are doing because they feel they “need” to. They are doing it because they appreciate what SD has done in the past, and have no problems supporting them - it’s about choice not need.
I’m buying a copy from walmart.com and amazon.com for my xbox and giving one to a friend as a gift for his birthday so we can play on XBL. But I’m gonna keep both codes for myself.
I think it’s really strange that gamestop got a DOOM outfit though. Not even interested in the doom or fallout packs as they just have weapon skins and are cross adverts for bethesda (NOT SD) games.
If you really like what Splash Damage is doing then buy the game. And buy it new. No one but the retailer is making money when you buy used… AND why does it bother you that there are exclusive packs?
Does it bother you if you play a game and someone’s been playing a game for 3 years and they’ve unlocked some special weapons or outfit that you only get for playing for 3 years?
If the answer is yes then the problem isn’t with the exclusivity it’s with your own jealousy.

In all fairness, it is a bit different. Regardless if it takes 3 years of playtime, anyone can obtain those items simply by playing the game long enough. With exclusive items such as these, No amount of playtime or skill will unlock them - you are forced to pay for them.

If the Hyper and GPMG in ETQW took 3 years to unlock, you can bet your left testicle players would protest about the imbalance of it. Even players who would never touch those guns, would complain about it.
At least the ones who care to play a dead game.
Good thing you don’t read the posts before you reply . . .
while I said before . . .

Besides… the boxed version probably will have the steam installer if it really is required to play the game, about the account… when offline you don’t need to login just because you can’t.
Splash Damage actually described which are skins (texture) or models (3D object + sounds)
Brink Pre-order Packages and North American Retailers Revealed
The above mention packs, the weapons are skins (texture) while the Psycho and Spec Ops packs are actualy models with 2 different skins (1 for each faction) and their custom sounds. Notice they don’t mention the word skin:
I hope you understood everything this time around
Exactly, I have thousands of hours of wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and I never gave anything back to them for all those good times!.. I proud of buying their 1st IP twice, gladly and fortunately since I can afford. Anyway I’m not just going to help them out and paying them back for something I want to thank for but also to show everyone out there how team game design is so forgotten, Brink is not about 1 man army like most FPS games. There for I will borrow my 2nd steam account or the DVD itself to trusted family and close friends, nonetheless… I can also make lans in my office since there is AI for the other 14 players on my good old dual core 64 (939 socket PC relic). Not to mention possible server set up.
Once more I’ll say it!
Thank you Splash Damage for remembering how important and fun team effort is and for all those years of Enemy Territory for free playing, good times!

[/QUOTE]That’s because the Fallout and Doom packs are literally just skins, i.e. retextures of an existing model as you mentioned, where as the SpecOps and Psycho (is it?) weapons are not skins, but unique models. It’s very unlikely that these items would have their own unique stats and not be for all intents and purposes just alternative models for existing weapons already in the game. In the event they had unique stats I have no doubts that they would be so minor that complaining about the integrity of balance would only make one look stupid.
