Applying terrain manually

(Justice) #1

I wanna map a bit again, but last time I mapped I had a big problem using the scripts to create a manually textured terrain.

I’m talking about the SimonOC tutorial for terrains:
http://www.simonoc.com/pages/articles/terrain1_1.htm
http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22387

It seems the scripts I use work for the textures he made, but when I make them, they don’t.
I was wondering what settings I’m supposed to use.
I use an alpha channel to generate the parts of the image to fall away and I save as Targa (.tga) 32 bits and a size of 512x512, same as the example texture. This should work, but it doesn’t.

Well it is very complicated his tutorial, if you don’t mind that alpha channel fading and just want a linear fade, remove the lines “alphaFunc GE128” in your shaders.I find it quite useless, just maybe for some leaves on a blended floor:confused:
This way you don’t have to matter the alpha channel
I also use a tip of a tutorial http://www.bakdesign.net/tm/tutorial/3dsmax_tutorial.html
If you wanna try this one,I have found new links(cause there are dead in the tut) for the special q3map2 compiler needed for it:wink:

Hope it helps,I know it probably doesn’t answers the question xD

Somehow it works now.

And thank you so much BackSnip3, that really improved it’s graphical appearance.
