Appearances of Pay to Win

When I started playing I did so against my better judgement. I knew about the cases and the random cards and the paying for better cases. What I didn’t fully understand was that bronze cards are actually the best in the game and they aren’t that hard to get.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the loadout card system in general, I think they could make it look less P2W if they made changes along these lines:

lead -> “1 star”
iron -> “2 star”
bronze -> “3 star”
silver -> “3 star / silver skin”
gold -> “3 star / gold skin”
…

Why? It makes it very clear that these cards are the same, but with a different skin.

They could even guide beginners through a bunch of missions that ended in trading-up to a bronze card.

When opening a case there are percentages for each rarity along with information that Silver and above is just cosmetic.

Cards have symbols that describe primary-secondary-melee weapons, like KE53 for Proxy - Hochfir, DE, cricket bat.

The only thing that’s needed is to show new players that there are only 9 loadouts for each merc, no RNG that would make it seem like P2W.

It could be shown much clearer in many ways that anything above bronze is cosmetic.

Having things labeled bronze, silver and gold inherently implies that gold is better than bronze and silver. That’s simply a fact, because that’s how it actually works in the world.

Other names for the tiers would do wonders for clarity, if so desired.

Back when the game was in CB everyone knew the game was a grind but nobody considered it pay2win even though, at the time, there was a silver and a gold card that were exclusive to those tiers (with a silver Sawbonez being the one every competitive player needed). Then open beta hit and they got rid of the tier exclusive cards but things still weren’t labeled as well as they are now. And of course people do assume that silver and gold are better than a bronze since that’s simply the nature of a value system.

DB has, since then, made credits easier to gain and made more effort in the UI to make sure people know that. There is still a lot of work that could be done though since first impressions are pretty key and, let’s face it, some people simply don’t read.

Yet another quick thing that could be added to the tutorial video is equipping a card and explaining the system. But at least most new people coming in today are doing it because of positive word of mouth due to truly not being pay2win.

The one thing I didn’t quite get about the loadout system at first, is that there’s “only” 9 loadouts per merc, I though that the cards were random, as in random weapons and random perks.

@Kingsley as Jostabeere said, AngryJoe, at least at good bit came from him not getting how the loadout and cases works.

AngryJoe was a complete idiot in that review, the one game with a good real money system and he manages to convince his fanbase that the game is pay2win.
I love how he got told in the comment section though, so very deserved, just sucks that the damage had already been done

Angry Joe won’t see this cus he will be screaming at the screen for losing all the money of his fans, while he only gets 1 gold per 20 cases, and making a review, when he only played like 1 or 2 matches
