Anyone familiar with Terragen?

Im trying to use Terragen (0.9) to generate a nice environment for me…

All i want is a nice blue sky with a few happy lil clouds and a comlpetely open ocean with a few nice happy ripples in it :stuck_out_tongue:

I know how to generate this, but the problem is… How do i turn this into a environment?

Do i need to make like the 6 images you need, for left, right, up, down, top and bottom? Or something else?

And what size do they need to be?

I tried experimenting with 512*512 in size and just putting the camera in the exact center, having it looking to the left, then right, then up … etc… but just by looking at the pictures i could easily see they didn’t align… so making it into a skybox would not look good lol… how do i make them align properly?

Yes Flippy skybox images are usually 512x512 tga ( Maybe you can try 1024x1024 )
Here is help about this from map-center forum - How to make all images needed for skybox ( down, up, front … )

they never align. i used terragen for one of my maps and then for the current im using max8. if you use perfect square field of vision of 90 degrees the images wont line up, because of how wolf loads the texes. i think C or someone had a post about this.

there are several ways to make them align properly, you could cut a little part off and stretch it in photoshop or some other image editor, or you could also use 89 degrees instead of right angles, maybe what you need is 91 degrees tho. this is what i recommend you try first

Thanks i will try some of these tips tomorrow

I didn’t have any problems when I used Terragen for my map. I followed this tutorial and everything was alright. This is the most important thing to do:
Now set the ZOOM / MAGNIFICATION in CAMERA SETTINGS to 1. It defaults to 1.414 which will cause the images not to line up correctly.

See Sock’s Q3 Skybox Bug article to read how to fix it.

It aligns perfectly when you…

ZOOM / MAGNIFICATION in CAMERA SETTINGS to 1

Aligns fine for me too. Camera settings are the key. I create the images as 1024x1024 with high detail and then down size them with an image editor.

This is a corner shot from ingame.

ok im SORRY but i dumped terragen as i didnt like it much.

as for 3dMAX8: instead of values like 1.4 or 1 it’s camera uses actual DEGREES of VISIBILITY.

and whenever i put in 90 degrees like it should be for a box. it doesnt get aligned well in wolf anyway.
this leads me to believe that the terragen value 1.4 is actually proportional to right angles or a little over that. and that right angles dont align very well indeed in wolf

so i tried using 89 degrees of visibility for the camera’s field of view and it got aligned pretty well.

once again im not using terragen so i didnt remember it didnt use degrees of visibility, and instead a value that for me makes no sense like 1. what i meant was move the slider until you get it right. that value just happened to be 1
