Anyone else feel like mouse movement is odd?

lucky you :frowning:
Well, there are two different reasons here for which you have trouble aiming imo : the first one being the lack of experience in DB (it took me a while to get used to tracking, but now I’m getting comfortable with it), and also because DB is faster than l4d for example (and the servers are mostly filled with guys that have competition background, and are really good killers ^^).

Now I don’t say its perfect, it should be tweaked. But maybe can I advise you to try playing a bit more and see if it gets better, and then report you experience here to further help the devs ?
I get what you’re saying, and certainly I will continue to play and try to get a feel for it. But my point is more that I shouldn’t have to…or at least not to the degree that we have here. There’s always a learning curve to a game and I’m ok with that. My point in bringing up the other games was just to say I didn’t have the kind of trouble I’m experiencing here in other games of a the same genre.
That being said, I would love to play more, but alas, most of the times I am free to play, no one is on. I’m trying to make it to more of the organized games lately though.

This is when I notice it the most. Actually, last time I played (UK Server) I didn’t notice it at much. I wonder if that’s because lag was a bigger factor and that has some direct influence on mouse control/input, which doesn’t make sense to me.

(Hansi) #44

I dont know if it is just a placebo, but I think for me this helped somehow:

OneFrameThreadLag=False instead of true.

in the ShooterEngine.ini

some explications in the tribes forum:

You can set that now in the settings menu.
settings->video->one frame interval.

At least for me it seems like the smoothness of the mouse movement varies with my FPS. When there’s only a few players on the server and I have 120+ FPS it feels completely smooth, while when more players join and it drops below 70-80 it feels like the sensitivity is slowing down and the movement becomes completely sluggish.

I changed my mouse, could not get a decent shot at all in DB. I tried it a bit later on UT 2004, and after 10 kills of adaptation, I got back my flick shots and general aim. It felt so good it was amazing.

Made me realize how much mouse movement is wrong in DB right now, hope this gets fixed

(Kl3ppy) #48

Yeah, mousemovement feels odd to me too. But with the last patch, it got a bit better.

(chippy) #49

I personally don’t have an issue with the actual mouse ā€œmovementsā€ as discussed in this thread. My gripe lies more with the fact that I have to use a sensitivity of ā€œ10ā€ to feel comfortable. In other games I’d use 3.25 and that would translate over to most other games assuming that it has raw input enabled. But in Dirty Bomb I just can’t get close enough. ā€œ9ā€ is way to low, ā€œ11ā€ is way to high, and 10 is somewhere in the middle but still not even close to what I’m used to.

This is the reason I stopped playing DB after just a few hours total, the mouse movement clearly has issues which make it feel unnatural, I can’t feel comfortable playing until it is resolved.

(INF3RN0) #51

I recently dropped to an incredibly low sens after playing ETQW again. I still haven’t found any strange mouse movement problems, but one thing to investigate is different polling rates. I suggest trying 250 or 500 if your not on it already, otherwise it might be an issue with specific mice or drivers.

(Kendle) #52

Haven’t posted in this thread before, so figured I might as well …

… I don’t find mouse movement odd at all, my mouse works fine (once you disable the ā€œone frame thread lagā€ option in the menu).

I’ve had to set my sensitivity to a value higher than I normally would, but after a bit of experimentation I have it at a nice value now and have no problems at all. I run everything on high settings and get 100+ FPS everywhere, so that might be a factor (i.e. poor performing PC = poor performing mouse).

(pulley) #53

If u play with a sens lower 10 the game just sometimes skips pixels. Especially when making slow movement. Try Sens 10 and lower your mouse DPI. For me that feels much better…

(Anti) #54

Let us know if any of you try this and find it helps

(INF3RN0) #55

I’m on sens 2 @ 1800 dpi atm, though I haven’t had weird issues at all sorts of random settings- Logitech g400. If this is really happening and isn’t just placebo with the engine, then maybe it can be recorded and people can list their mice/drivers etc so they can figure out what’s the cause.

(Kl3ppy) #56

Just had a quick game and I reduced my DPI to 400 and increased my sense to 11 and it feels better now. Not sure if this is a placebo, need to test it more.

Mouse: Logitech G400 @400 DPI

(RasteRayzeR) #57

Compared to UT2004, I felt a big difference. It was all smooth and accurate, great tracking. In DB … not so much

(sunshinefats) #58

I’ve still yet to find any setting I feel is comparable to the ā€œfeelā€ I get in other games. It’s just hard for me to track and I find the constant going back and forth with settings was only making matters worse for me. So, for the time being, I’m taking the advice of another player and just sticking with my current settings to see if I can get used to it. I haven’t had a chance to play (with any people, which is the only way I can tell) lately so I’ll have to report back after I’ve had a chance to check again later. But currently my settings are: mouse is at 1200dpi (I was going at 800 at one point too) sensitivity 11, smoothing off, one frame interval on. I find that it feels difficult to track moving opponents, although in other games this would be pretty sensitive. However the alternative is that I can’t keep the crosshair on them because it’s too sensitive so I consider this a compromise. I’m not using any particularly special drivers or anything(the mouse is adjusted via a button on it so it doesn’t need the fancy drivers).

(Mustang) #59

FOV also effects perceived sensitivity, out of interest what FOV are people using?

(Kl3ppy) #60

Im using 120
