with my advancing age i cant be sure if it’s input lag or output lag…i fear the latter.
Anyone else feel like mouse movement is odd?
I thought it was just me getting old. I don’t play any other FPS to compare it to but I often find myself leading the target then falling behind but never right where I feel I am aiming.
Same thing, some strange feeling while i try to track enemy, I thought im the only one who have it :o
It may be worth recording some simple mouse movements and slowing them down frame by frame to see if there’s inconsistency. I think it’s mostly the movement differences that make the reflex tracking a bit off-putting rather than actual “mouse lag”. I’ll try to test this on the weekend on my end, but it would be good for multiple people to try the same.
had the same problem. I just set Mouse Sense Back to default and decreased my DPI. Feels much better now!
Square pegs and round holes springs to mind, this game is trying to make quake with unreal based off the forum feedback. The mouse is off though, I think a higher and stable unlocked average framerate will alleviate this, with an option to remove the framerate smoothing.
I reinstalled ETQW the other night to see how the mouse control felt in comparison. To me I didn’t really feel that much of a significant difference. The main thing I can think of is that low frame rates or just being too used to another game’s engine/mechanics will make anything feel odd. The dot in DB really helped for me to know where to aim better, but as far as control it might be my relatively higher sensitivity (20 @ 800dpi) that doesn’t make it as apparent.
Also I think DB still has acceleration while switching strafe directions, which means you have to compensate with varied mouse movement. This is most likely the culprit for most people experiencing “lag” because if this is in fact the way it works still you can’t really strafe in one direction and move your mouse at a consistent speed in the other. That ends up being a problem if you aim reflexively with muscle memory or visually track your dot and compensate mouse movements accordingly.
Still worth investigating and finding out exactly what is happening.
Performance does have a direct impact into the amount of input latency you have in a UE3 game, with a lower framerate introducing more delay.
We know that performance of the game is a big issue right now and we’re starting to work towards improving things in that regard. You guys probably wont see much change in the next update, but a few weeks from now you should begin to notice a difference.
glad to hear that performance is being cared for now.
but to what extent?
I have my fps capped to 60 right now, which is somewhat stable on most maps and equals my monitor’s refresh rate. But I still feel like the mouse is not acting the same way as it does in CS:GO, TF2, any other game tbh.
60 frames should be a value where things are alright. not perfect but playable. I notice some weird mouse feeling with 60 frames as well, though.
I am not sure if it has something to do with onethreadframeinterval though.
Might have some influence, as its currently set to 1 for me. so I will test some moar.

With your 1/2 in 360 Wind Kun sensitivity I doubt you would notice anything to be honest. I had thought they removed the acceleration in all directions since the last patch?
We’ll probably have to wait until they optimize and we all get a solid 120 fps with people in the server to see if it helps. Image, when you duel someone do you notice this problem (I ask when dueling because the server is empty and the FPS’s is generally 140+.)
I think it’s uniform accel in all directions, but the accel is still there. I might be wrong though.

Tested it a bit on Camden with only today, no matter how high the FPS are, the mousemovement just doesnt feel as twitchy as it is for example in quake live.
I’m so glad to find this thread…every time I play I cry like a little girl with a skinned knee about how much trouble I’m having tracking targets. It’s as though I either can’t quite get my crosshair on them or I can get it on them but can’t keep it there. I can never seem to find a happy medium no matter how much tweaking I do. I blame a lot of it on the game engine honestly, but regardless it’s a game wrecking thing to me right now. I can’t get “used” to it because I play other FPS games too much…I mean I come off l4d2 or bo2 in which I can actually hit targets, and suddenly in DB I can’t hit the broad side of a barn to save my life. I’m talking like 3 kills 33 deaths here…it’s ridiculous. I don’t claim to be a great gamer, but that’s terrible even for me…and it doesn’t happen on the other games I play…only in DB. To me, that’s not my setup…that’s the game. It’s getting better slowly, but sheesh…
I’m new to Alpha and have only played 2 games but even to me it’s clear there is something off with the aiming and target tracking, I don’t really know how to explain it other than it feels off.
Well, there are two different reasons here for which you have trouble aiming imo : the first one being the lack of experience in DB (it took me a while to get used to tracking, but now I’m getting comfortable with it), and also because DB is faster than l4d for example (and the servers are mostly filled with guys that have competition background, and are really good killers ^^).
Now I don’t say its perfect, it should be tweaked. But maybe can I advise you to try playing a bit more and see if it gets better, and then report you experience here to further help the devs ?
I think it would be better if everyone noticing input lag would give their fps in the average gameplay case(10+ players on server, action going on). FPS has a huge hit on input lag perception(after all, you don’t see your changes so quickly).
