Anymore DLC?
I would guess 4 or 5 DLCs total is Bethesda’s usual number (based on the Fallout series).

I’d pay $10 for a DLC considering that I’m buying 2 of each.

If Brink ever got 4 or 5 DLCs to back it up, that’d be fantastic. I mean what’s done is done, sure the core game really needed some more fixes and content before release but if we can get the content later on then that’d be great.

Hell, if they can work out more of those Free-Fortnight deals, that’d be fantastic.

Paid for DLC is fundamentally a crap model. It started with the consoles, as I understand it, because MS / Sony charged for content provision so that had to be passed on - now seems to be infecting the PC.

It fractures the community and basically incentivises the publisher to release the game in installments - which is fine if it’s advertised and priced upfront accordingly (ie, this is really an episodic game…) - but all too often it’s just a cash grab.

It completely removes any inclination to provide a SDK, which in turn hampers any kind of fan/community development.

Some of the best maps I played on RTCW were custom, made by players who understood the game and community - certainly doubt it would have lasted as long if you didnt have the competition and public mods (OSP / Shrub respectively). Same goes for W:ET.

Funnily enough, without an SDK, I wonder how/if SD would ever have got started…

Seeing quite a few Greyed out spots on the Ark map, tells us there supposed to be at least more maps to be had.

They can still expand on existing abilities/weapons without breaking the game. Like a bigger radius upgrade for the field regen unit or a light weapon attachment for the UAV, maybe even lay two pyro mines (may be going to far with the last one). Perhaps they can encorperate dual wielding pistols and bring back the machete as an upgrade to the knife, hell dual wielding machetes why not? Even the parkour could be upgraded… what if you can go up one level in your manuverability when you are administered a speed boost? A heavy can pull himself up onto ledges over his head, a medium can wall hop, a light can WALL RUN for three steps before hoping off and everyone’s slide is extended by a little. What do yall think of this?

It wasn’t that long ago when we used to buy expansion packs for PC. It split the community but there was usually enough content to warrant anyone but the very casual players to buy them.

I’m all for custom maps but at the same time they bring down the average map quality down, almost splitting the player base to a milder extent.

I personally am very wary of custom maps. 9/10 are terrible yet admins will still keep them in rotation. It should be our choice though right? I suppose so, but it’s not all as good as it sounds.

Besides the point maybe but quality is a concern

IMO, Labs and Founder’s Tower are two of my top 3 favorite maps. So, that’s a good sign. They are improving on their designs.

(Kurushi) #47

Definitely. The official maps are excellent, including the new ones. I love where SD went with Labs and Founder’s Tower.

As much as I want people to get an SDK, I’d probably stay away from customs, unless SD stopped adding new maps for some time

Only sad part was I was wishing and hoping for another Escort in at least one of the new maps. :frowning: But, they are both really fun. I love the Escort maps though. All 3 are my favorite in the game. And Labs. My four favorite.

(DLC out early June!?) #49
Surely the announcement wouldn’t have been that the “first” DLC will be free, if it were to be the only one
This quantification implicitly signifies that more are planned
They also delayed this “first” DLC by 2 months and the “free dlc” is a limited time thing. Kinda screwy if you ask me.

Yeah some custom maps were terrible, however if quality is the main issue you can look at how THQ manage it with CoH. Basically any community map that is worthy is patched into the standard game so you don’t have a split community, and you keep the quality at a level commensurate with the rest of the game.

In terms of SD, if they are intent on filling in all the areas of the Ark I could see them perhaps setting a theme for a map and putting it out to the community as a competition, choosing the best from those submitted - it’s a win-win, SD don’t have such a high overhead, the community is maintained for longer - which would be in the interest of said developer as it’ll help when ‘brink2’ comes out to have an active player base.

The other custom maps can simply exist outside of the game’s narrative - potentially leading to even more interesting scenarios (anyone remember Kung Fu Grip on RTCW :))

They could even commission some of the better mappers/modders to continue the story…that is, after all, how SD got started

I would love DLC and pay for it.

P.s. do some yard work, my dad was always good for that when I was a teenager.

It’s a good idea. As long as they’re extremely picky

In the end, some choice is better than no choice. Anything to keep keep people playing is good thing, and that thing is content no?
