Any tips for a player playing Phantom?

I have played Phantom for a while now. Well, compared to you guys… not a lot. I have played with him for about 12 hours and I am getting the hang of him. I know a lot of people are negative toward him and he is terrible, but I want to continue playing him. Also Phantom was the first merc I played as, so he is pretty special to me. (Courtesy of 10 bucks. lol)

The first tip many here would give you is don’t try to be a melee only player. His Katana is not a special ability. It’s just a melee weapon. Use his cloak/armor intelligently and remember that you have access to a Kek10 and a Crotzni.

Find good hiding spots and shiv the attacking medics (or engineers) as they pass. Make sure to finish them off, even you die in the process. It will piss off the medics to no end and upset their play.

As someone who mains Phantom and Vassili, I can say that Phantom’s strength, is in close to mid range combat, go for solo picks, and avoid groups, and if you have the element of surprise, you can one shot vital squishy characters

Remember that you have the best SMG in the game so USE IT.

Be sneaky flank an assasinate snipers or medics, avoid head to head combat, dont forget your smgs

You aren’t Spy. Don’t play Spy. If you play Spy, you will die.

Go for solo picks, whip out that KEK and spary everything down.

If it makes you melee only types feel better you can imagine that your KEK Is a long ranged sword :slight_smile:

agree with what is being said here, i got a lot betterat phantom when sporting the kek+doubletime loadout. you have all the mobility in the world, cloak is very effectivein going 1on1 with anyone, xcept fragger.

you can reliably use it as extra hp to cross danger zones, standing still or slowly moving will keep you invisible from most players. kek is very accurate for up to 15-20rounds allowing to do a lot of damage against unsuspecting targets.

finally you can use the armor to soak up initial hits and only engage when opponent has lower accuracy/less ammo

C94 loadout (best smg+katana with chopper), be sneaky, flank, get katana kills, use smg if things go south and be a lvl99 A-hole=profit

  • Most important: Don’t run at people with your Katana. Your “gap closer” (cloak) isn’t reliable enough to do that.
  • Use the cloak for tactical positioning. Look for opportunities to sandwhich your opponent inbetween your team and yourself.
  • Use your Katana when you want to get a silent pick - only reliable on oblivious and isolated enemies.
  • USE YOUR GUN. This is a big one, lots of people don’t realise that Phantom has two reliable primaries, both of them are capable of very high DPS.
  • Don’t banzai charge, just please no.
