Any plans for making audio better ?

(ragnak) #1

Yes, i cant hear footsteps 99% of the time.
Yes, people that shot next to me sound as if they are shooting on the other half of the map.
Yes, because of hit feedback (when you are getting hit) i cant hear anything.

And so on.

No, its not my audio hardware that is the problem.

One of the devs (forgot the name, sorry) told me on server that audio should be less horrible in the future but i would hardly call that official, so any plans on “fixing” audio or should i get used to listening to mp3 while playing so the sound doesnt confuse me ? At the very least allow people to disable that hit feedback (unless there is command for that already), its horrible.

There are footsteps?

(ragnak) #3

Kind of, but with silencer same as mg.

There are plans to improve the audio system so important information isn’t ducked/silenced/missed as often as it is now.

We know it’s one of the core areas that needs most love and attention. I’m especially frustrated by it as I’m very used to using audio in other games for positional knowledge.

Most of the sound effects themselves are great, but it’s good to know much-needed improvements to the audio system will be made.

There are definitely some footsteps… the other day I heard some, turned and got shot in the back. My headphones were on the wrong way round :o

You dont even know how happy im about this reply. Hopefully you can pinpoint the issues in 1-2 months  (or at least some of them).

Will walking/crouching make you hidden to heart beat sensors?

(Szakalot) #8

I LIKE! would probably disappear slowly after you are alreayd detected, but prevent further detection

Any update about audio ? I know its a lot of work to make it right but its quite important for me so it would be nice if we are getting close to something ;(.

If its still far away could you at least make footsteps more audible, fix mg so i can actually hear it and remove that self generated sound when i turn around (especially that it isnt synced with what i see at all ;( ) ?

I hope they dull the sound for the kek-10 a bit cause its really piercing my ears atm.

I dont find it that hard to discern footsteps, obviously need to be set in a quiet’ish area, but really not seeing this as significantly worse than other games.

(BioSnark) #14

It is significantly worse than ETQW for awareness but most games are.

(ragnak) #15

To be fair, most games these days dont even have footsteps because “headphone users would have unfair advantage” LoL. I will probably make a video about sound in this game at some point, its hard to explain some things without video.

Explosives are too loud most of the time, same goes for when “you are getting hit” feedback (i honestly cant even say what is shooting me, especially when its headshots), mg having lazy trackers with muffled sound is pretty annoying as well (i often cant even tell if i am getting shot, i just die).

There is something obviously wrong with sound levels when i can hear someone who is far away louder than someone who is next to me or how 2 people shooting next to me arent exactly as loud (both can use crotzni but one of them will be louder). Sometimes i cant even hear people jumping next to me (especially from the back). While i sometimes hear footsteps when someone is on my left/right i cant remember the last time i could hear anyone who was behind me. I honestly think that sound is getting cut off sometimes for some effects (like i cant hear airplanes sometimes) or cant even hear a group of 5 people running at me even tho i could hear them spawn ago.

It just seems like some effects makes others less audible and its so freaking inconsistent (mainly explosives but sometimes its dead silent aside from someone shooting 1km away and i cant hear people next to me). Maybe i am just used to old games where i could pretty much pin point people by sound, but i really hope it gets better in DB :(.

(AssortedStuff) #16

I can confirm this. Today I noticed (twice) announcements being cut off. The NPC voice starts to say something and suddenly goes quiet and doesn’t finish the announcement.
If it happens with announcements it is likely happening with other sounds as well.

Wish SD would save my ears from the torments of the repeating sound loop bug where a particular sound gets played over and over indefinitely. (medic pedals charging, rhino MG spinning, mines bleeping). It’s still haunting me in my sleep :penguin:

(Amerika) #18

Yeah, I thought that issue was supposed to be fixed with the last update but instead it seems to be worse. I constantly get the medic paddle and rhino spin-up buzz. They do go away faster than they did in the past (where they would never go away) but it seems to happen more often.
