Any new Brink News or Videos?

Well nobody says these people are required for Brink.

Guess they are talking about Brink: The Movie game they’re also developing:

“How have you balanced the single and multiplayer aspects of the game?

Willits: RAGE is mostly a single player experience, but we do have multiplayer, although we are not talking about this now, we will next year.
The multiplayer will be different from what people expect from id Software, it will be different from DOOM and games like that.
It won’t be as big as the single player game, but it definitely has a RAGE feel to it.

What would you say is unique about RAGE?

Willits: The unique aspect of RAGE is how we push all the separate aspects of the game together, with the vehicles and the racing, the ability to upgrade your cars, but then you can also have these weapons and engineering items.”

Post-apocalypses single player oriented, Sci-Fi racing? Nah, not a problem.

I heard it from a reliable source that Bethesda has some cool stuff planned for a flashy launch.

Ultimately, with WoW Cataclysm well behind them, nothing from Valve or Rockstar, Gears 3 bumped to fall, and Killzone 3 probably a couple months before Brink, a spring release is a perfect window for a game that really will need to be played and talked about to generate massive sales. Bethesda/Splash Damage need a quiet gaming period so that people can blog about this game and get others on board.

I am beginning to think that, with the exception of the art style, which is also of subjective value, Brink is a reasonably difficult game to market. At this point, there is no brand recognition (a new IP), it has an unusual and unfamiliar setting (e.g., it is not the Mad Max post-apocalyptic or Space marine setting that everyone immediately can relate to), it is intelligent and requires team work, and there is no traditional “story/campaign” mode with long boring cutscenes, etc. Of course, all of these are reasons I am attracted to it, but for the “average gamer (must read article)” Brink may be a hard sell.

And I just broke my fast and watched the Gametrailers PAX video (Rahdo walk-thru) and my hype meter just went through the roof again.

1.Daddy Gamer Market
2.ET and QW Market
3.COD Market
4. Dudes who love dressing up Barbie or Ken

I would say about a good 80% of the marketing is Daddy Gamer driven.
And the remaining 20% is Barbie and Ken with a bit of gameplay footage for the Cod Crowd.

They seem to be doing a good job imo.

I never said they would quicken it, I said it would hopefully prevent any further delays. They won’t need to learn ALL of the details there and then, only what’s necessary for the work they’re carrying out immediately, the rest will fall into place as they progress.

(.Chris.) #48

Care to explain what this is?

(Humate) #49

lol sure

There are a couple of meanings, but its when parents use games as a means to bond with their kid.

So to put that into context, Brink has a number of features that would really appeal to that sort of player. VOIP off by default, Team Damage off by default, Anti Collision, Auto Vsays, Mission Wheel, Rank/Level Segregation, Drop in and out support - etc etc etc

(Crytiqal) #52

Imagening my dad sitting next to me while I am playing an FPS with him

(dommafia) #53

kid bonding ftw! I have met many dad/son combos during my many gaming years. I plan to do the same with my lildom :stroggbanana:

(light_sh4v0r) #54

(tokamak) #55

Agree.

However, the best way to hype a new IP is through the hardcore gaming base. They need to get the marketing machine rolling on the big sites, such as IGN, Gamespot, GI, etc…

Buy some ad space on the homepage so there’s some more exposure. Give a site a big exclusive look at something, and let the news “echo” out to the other sites. Talk and show people more than the SMART system and character customization; ie. talk about the story some more, show off more missions and flaunt some of those awesome guns.

It’s about three months to launch and the hype really needs to start soon!

(dommafia) #57

sadly, Yes :frowning:

(Weapuh) #58

Why sadly yes dom?

(dommafia) #59

Cuz I haven’t played fps on pc for a really long time and I probably suck balls and will be an embarrassment to my old self :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, in case anyone cares, IGN finally updated and added Brink to their “Big Games of 2011” list.
