Anti-Virus being triggered by DB

(Silvanoshi) #1

Hi all,

As a number of you have highlighted now, Dirty Bomb’s latest release is triggering a false positive detection with some anti-virus setups. We’re working to correct this issue through a future update. In the meantime, please feel free to run Dirty Bomb as normal, your PC shouldn’t come to any harm as a result.

You don’t sound too confident about that.

I’m confident that it won’t, I’ve set up an exception on my PCs both here in the office and at home. I simply don’t enjoy guiding people and stating that anything (whatever it may be) will NEVER happen.

What is it that couldnt happend?

Anti-virus scanners match on a variety of different things, certain combinations of process calls, bit patterns matches, the easiest way to avoid false positives is to run your application through a bunch of anti-virus software to see if anything pings, there are also services and the like that will do this for you, I guess because we’re in beta with pretty frequent code changes it’s deemed a waste of time to go to all this effort at the moment, when a simple temporary solution is for people to whitelist.

I wanted to check if there was an update that might have removed the game’s annoyances, and was getting an Error 2 message or something. I repaired the installation and found that AVG is now finding the game to be a virus for the first time. Thought it might be helpful to mention which Anti-Viruses are doing it.

Thanks for the feedback Scarhand. We’re working with Nexon and the various anti-virus providers to get this issue addressed.
