Anti-cheat questions

(Vertaxx) #1

Just had my post closed for “naming and shaming”… sorry about that!

Just a few of questions to anyone that has the answers because I’m curious…

  1. Dirty Bomb uses NGS Anti-cheat, is there a public ban list available like there is for VAC? (http://vacbanned.com/) I ask this because VAC bans now show up on Steam profiles which is a good indication of whether certain players are likely to be cheating. (I believe naming and shaming is fine for CONFIRMED hackers)

  2. Is the NGS system capable of banning a users main account when they cheat on a “fake” account? I ask because this is another system proved effective with VAC.

Honestly, I don’t run into people I think are cheating very often in Dirty Bomb which is a credit to the anti-cheat system / policies and I understand that the occasional cheater can get through… I would just like a little information on these two points.

Thanks

1 I dont think theres a list for that
2 From what I´ve heard if you cheat several times with fake accounts you might get banned on all accounts from the same ip, if you do it only 1 time I don´t think so.

  1. There is no publicly available list of banned accounts.
  2. When a player is banned ‘associated’ accounts are banned as well. This means accounts that were used from the same IP address. When an associated account is banned and they try to sign in it will specifically tell them they were banned for being an ‘associated account’.

Ouch, is this a blanket ban or is there any investigation whether accounts are actually associated, like checking if they’re playing at the same time?

Good thing I have a public IPv4 address then

I don’t see how banning someone because the account used a IP address, would be fair or accurate. There’s no way to know there’s a true connection between said accounts based on IP alone. So i think that’s a load of BS.

A ban on Hardware, sure. Not IP.

@MarsRover I am not a Nexon employee and I am not a GM. Not sure what their investigation process is. I only know that I have seen screenshots for bans of ‘associated accounts’ posted on the forums. The response to those screenshots was that they were banned for using the same IP that an account that was banned was using.

I have no additional knowledge beyond that.
