Another "Sign in could not be completed" Problem

(nimbleModel) #1

So I have already done google searches and forum searches and tried all the ideas I could find, so I’m making this thread in the hopes of getting more.

Problem:
For the past couple of days, I’ve attempted to connect to the game. I launch the game, the splash screen shows up, and then it goes to a black screen with your spinning logo saying “loading.” After sitting there for a minute or so it fails saying “sign in could not be completed.”

What I’ve tried so far:

  • I have Bitdefender which appears to be a common problem for this game. I disabled all firewalls and security and tried launching the game, didn’t work.

  • I’ve added the entire Dirty Bomb folder and .exe and shortcut to the exceptions tab of Bitdefender so it wouldn’t mess with it, didn’t help.

  • I tried verifying my Steam files. Most of the time it says it has a problem with two files (doesn’t name them) and they will be redownloaded. Occasionally Steam says all files are fine. This doesn’t fix it either (I’ve tried this with Bitdefender enabled and disabled).

  • I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, didn’t work.

  • I’ve tried launching the game at various points of time, so I know it isn’t an issue with their servers (them being down for maintenance or being overloaded). If that were the case I’d see a lot more forum posts of people complaining lol

  • I’ve created a support ticket but I’m still waiting for them to respond with ideas.

So can anyone help?

Finally figured it out myself. It turns out you can’t just turn off your firewall, you have to go into the adapters screen and set it to trusted.

Open Bitdefender -> Find the Firewall square in the list and click the button in the center that says “Manage Adapters” (don’t go into the adapters settings) -> You’ll see a dropdown box labeled network type (probably set to Home/Office), set it to Trusted. -> Launch the game. After launching it once you can reset it and you’ll still be able to play

I’ve figured out how to fix this in ESET Smart Security 8. After going through several different options in I’ve found that the game is somehow being modified at launch (likely something to do with anticheat).

For ESET users:

  1. Go to Setup > Network > Advanced Firewall Setup
  2. Expand the “Personal Firewall” tree and go to “Application modification detection”
  3. If you have this sign in issue, you have the first box checked. Both boxes are checked by default. Enable “Allow modiffications of signed (trusted) applications” if it isn’t already.
  4. Click the “Add…” button and you should see the Dirty Bomb executable in the list. Select it and click “OK”. Now click “OK” for the Advanced setup window.
