Another objective to make operative more useful

(stanley35) #1

In my opinion, i think operative is the least used class in the game. A way to make that not true is to add another objective to the operative class. I think splash damage should make operatives have a mobile spawn point they can drop so the whole team can spawn on it. This will help to end stalemates or spawn traps you have on maps like container city by going behind enemy lines with an operative in discuise and putting down a mobile spawn point(while still staying in discuise until the operative put down the spawn point) so the team cna flank them and destroy their setups. I no ppl would say that wouldnt b balance but what if they can only have one per team so you cant keep on putting down spawn points left and right. Once the spawn point is destroyed by another team, you can lay down another one if the recharge is done, lets make it a very long recharge time. Just like how operative can spot mine, they can also spot spawn point for your team to make them even more useful and then of course the engineers have to go and destroy it. wouldn’t this make the operative even more useful and fun

Having Engineers destroy it would make Engineers OP (which people already accuse them of when they’re not).

Having Operatives with this ability as you suggested would make Operatives and Engineers OP.

Basically, just… not a good plan all round. IF the basic idea wasn’t a bad one in the first place, then I’d say Operatives se,t SOLDIERS destroy, because that makes something else where Engineers aren’t directly involved.

As it stands, though, Operatives get:

Caltrops - highest potential XP gain from any grenade type.
Stickies - one of the best tools in the game for causing chaos among your enemies, and when one actually goes off in a crowd, it’s one of the most deadly weapons in the game.
Disguise - the only basic kit ability that lets a player gain benefits from defeating enemies, and one of the biggest one-shot XP objectives available to players using only basic kit. Also up with Stickies in the list of best ways to cause chaos in the enemy ranks.
Hack turret - enemy defenses become your weapons. Yes please?
Cortex Bomb - best way to counter CQC incaps and melee finishers.

You can move from Disguise to Disguise and earn insane amounts of XP as an Operative, and if you’re good with Caltrops once you buy them, they add to that massively.

if you’re having trouble with getting spawn-camped, get better Soldiers on your team - flashbangs basically invalidate spawn-camping, if you know what you’re doing - Molotovs and ARs with underslung grenade launchers help a lot too - if you combine all three on a Soldier who knows what to do, the campers will be scattered and confused at worst, and if you’re lucky, the Soldier will be able to wipe out most of them alone.

Thanks so much. Very smart read from you. You’ve really embraced the operative. A lot of people don’t play operative very well.

Alright idea, but I don’t think it’ll work to well and cause a huge balance issue and will significantly make Operatives a popular class. Not to mention more programming is involved to make the mobile spawn points. My biggest problem is spawn camping, it already gets bad on Container City. The only thing that gives offense a chance is the long haul Defense has to take to get to Offenses spawn.

(Seatsniffer) #6

I like the idea of a mobile spawn…it’s comparable to ETQW’s spawn-hosts (Strogg Technician - the Macron’s own Medic class).

But in ETQW, you can choose where to spawn, be it a spawnhost you selected, or any spawn on the map.
If a mobile spawn in Brink forces an entire team to spawn there, it will piss players off for sure.
Unless you’re in a team that is communicating very efficiently.

Again, the idea sounds fun…but I think players should have the option to pick their spawn: mobile, or default.

I honestly don’t mind people not playing operatives. It lets me be one of the few that actually do play [which is usually me being the only Op unless there’s an objective requiring it].

When i’m the only Op and sitting on the top of the leaderboard, it feels good.

I don’t go from corpse to corpse like a vulture trying to milk XP. I use what tools I have at my disposal to do what I need to do and when. Performing a comm hack and a disguise on everybody is a waste of time and should only be done when needed. There are times when other objective are more important - and if that gains me less xp, who cares? Not like I’m building towards anything with it.

I’d rather take the win.

qft

My first character is operative, level 20, so I don’t need to gain any XP for the sake of it, but still manage to be 1st or 2nd every map I play. Played on reactor yesterday - I only killed 4-5 enemies during the whole defened from hacking time, and
was at the top simply by running with the enemy and marking them continuously = wallhack for my team

imo, marking is insane xp gainer when done right

QFT? I usually can figure out what these acronyms mean but not if it’s not in context.

Operative is very powerful if used correctly. You can destroy the oppositions strategy with a good operative. The trick is to get behind enemy lines. Hack turrets. Kill enemies when they are alone. Coms hack. Fire wall command posts. Disguise and Spot enemies. (Your teammates can see the enemy through the walls when spotted.) Security Tower is a prime example. You can literally run around and ninja kill the other team. Jumping up from spawn point and wreaking major havoc. Operative is fine.

(PillowTalk) #13

Hacking turrets would admittedly be better for helping your team if the turrets actually did what they are supposed to consistently and reliably.

If you have hack turret but not control turret, you’re pretty much just wasting time hacking the enemy turrets.

Oh, and to other operatives out there: Don’t just spot the mines. Yeah, spot them for the XP, go on ahead; but if you’re not getting the **** kicked out of you, don’t wait for an engineer who probably won’t even bother with it; just shoot it yourself and take it out. You get more XP from it anyway

Not true. Many of the objectives, you do need diversions and operatives are great for that. Otherwise, you can pin the other team in a choke point without worry. A diversion is a HUGE help to a team. Just getting a couple enemies chasing an Operative or spending time reclaiming a command post or fixing a turret can be the gap needed to hack the vent or hack on Resort. Also, Operative is amazing on Security Tower. On Container City, I’ve helped my team get out of a Spawn Trap by going to the other team’s command post, then on the other side of the map.

(DemiGod) #15

If the mine is in an easily avoidable spot, shooting a mine is a waste of ammo. Just spot it and move on.

Hacking a turret saves your teammates from getting shot, so i use it all the time even without controlling it. Not to mention, often times I get behind a line of 4-5 enemies that are all in front of a turret at a chokepoint. Knockout the engineer watching the turret, caltrop between you and the group and hack the turret. The entire line of them goes down. No more chokepoint.

Also, if you’re map savvy, you’ll see that most chokepoints have a number of way of getting around, especially with a light bodytype.

I agree with you completely; I’m just saying because the turrets don’t seem to work like they should (not tracking a good portion of completely valid targets) they don’t make much of a distraction.

If/when the turrets are fixed, I think many people who think the Operative is useless will change their minds; maybe even start calling them OP. Heh; the OP is OP XD

There is also a control friendly turret. So I’d think you hack a turret, then take control over it? I have not tried but I will get back to you!
