Announcing: ET SpecOps

(S. Monkey) #1

My mod has a name, after the class it adds. I’ve finally got it working without crashing so I can start adding features.

Heres a quick screenshot of SpecOps sporting a trendy black and orange fez:

SpecOps is so stealthy, he doesn’t even show up on the scoreboard:

Hope to have a releasable version soon. [/img]

I think you should name your mod “un-gamma corrected screenshots”

(S. Monkey) #3

Thats how I like it. Not everyone wants the screen so bright it feels like a near-death experience you know :stuck_out_tongue:

(Domipheus) #4

no, hes serious, u gotta gamma correct the images as et’s /screenshot doesnt do that for you :stuck_out_tongue:

(S. Monkey) #5

There, done it :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice to have support off fellow modders.

(Domipheus) #6

much better :D:D:D

ROFL!

(S. Monkey) #8

Yeah, I’m trying to get my head round that one at the momenet. :banghead:

(sniser) #9

Awww… I thought it was called Spectator Ops… random idea: a floating eyeball for each spectator

(bacon) #10

I don’t really see a point to this mod. All you’re doing is adding a dumbed-down version of the covert ops…

(S. Monkey) #11

Not at all. Firstly, the new class is intended to split up the 2 roles currently played by cvops players (sniper or inflictrator) and make them more specialised.

And this mod isn’t going to be just a class, I’ve got a whole load more features im going to throw in once the new class is working. Some extra abilities for existing classes, and new level features.

(S. Monkey) #12

Done some new stuff on specops. However, there is still a serious bug that occurs when you try to spawn as an axis specops - and I don’t want to release a version until that is ironed out. So, some screenshots:

You can now join a server thats running the mod without any major problems (provided you don’t choose axis specops, of course). So, a third person shot of specops:

I’ve corrected the bug where you didn’t show up on the scoreboard. Specops isn’t stealthy anymore

Another feature I’ve added is preventing medics from regenerating withing 5 seconds of taking damage. The icon on the left pops up while the medic can’t regen (I know its a crap graphic - but its just a placeholder like all the other graphics)

(Salteh) #13

I think you mean the icon on the RIGHT ?
What’s the problem with axis specops ?

(S. Monkey) #14

Indeed. Me=stupid.

What’s the problem with axis specops ?

When you spawn, it puts you at the spawn point and everything, you see your stats, gun etc. but then it freezes, accesses the disk for about 2 minutes, and crashes. Only happens to axis - allied specops is working fine.

Worst thing is - i was testing it for ages only using axis specops, so I didn’t realise that the allied one worked.

(Salteh) #15

:o
Attached a debugger? :o

I assume you were testing it as allies specops only… so didn’t realisy axis one didn’t work?
I guess it’s late… have a  :stuck_out_tongue:

(S. Monkey) #16

I’ve been planting lines in the code to output whats going on at various points to get an impression of whats happening (given I don’t know how to use Visual Studio debugging). As far as I can tell, its got something to do with the config string that says which class you are (can’t remember the name off the top of my head).

Thanks for the nana  It was the other way round - I tested axis only and assumed they both didn’t work when allies did. Now I test both, to be sure.

Here some links from MSDN (all for VC98 resp. VC++ 6.0):

Debugging Remote Applications

You should also install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 6 (if you don’t have it already).

I seem to recall debug DLLs causing the game not to work at all - ill try it with the service pack though.
