Animation fans?

Any fans of animation? May it be the eastern animation, like anime (japanese animation), or western animation, like cartoons, I just find it so neat how people can create such fun and intriguing stories with moving pictures. I believe it’s an underrated medium.

My top favorite anime series are Baccano! and Steins;gate. They’re always my top recommendations. For animated movies, I really like anything from studio Ghibli (like Princess Mononoke) or Sword of the Stranger (it’s got one of best animated sword fights I have ever seen).
For cartoons, I really enjoyed the two relatively recent shows Bojack Horseman and Rick and Morty. I do as well like some cartoons that were targeted for children like Star Wars Rebels and Star vs. the forces of evil.

I am curious, if anyone here likes to watch some animated works, and what favorites you have. I would love to hear some opinions as to why you chose those as well (even if I haven’t stated mine).

I still watch animated stuff.

Love them DreamWorks and “Didney” movies. There are some interesting cartoons, here and there.

As far as Japanese animation goes. I used to be into Shonen genre (DBZ, Bleach), however I found Seinen genre much enjoyable and less dumb to watch (Jojo, Ninja Scroll). After so much disappointment with DB Super, and phobia for horribly long running series (with tons of filler and slow pacing), I don’t think anything beats JoJo for me at the moment, the pacing and no filler spoiled me.

Seven Deadly Sins. got hooked after seeing a gif of melodias and Ban armwrestling.

@TheStrangerous Oh, I know JoJo. It’s such a beautifully absurd and fun anime. A cool story as well. I did watch quite a lot of it until recently, when I just stopped for no particular reason. Part 2: Battle tendency is probably my favorite. Mostly because it’s got the best Jojo, Joseph Joestar. He’s witty, cunning and most importantly, that engrish.
If you like Seinen, some of my favorite anime’s of that genre are Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate and, a quite recent one, Drifters (Isn’t yet finished). I recommend all of them.

Definitely me.

I was fan of Japanese animation back in my highschooling days, but today I mostly prefer western/indie animations for personal reason.

Some of my personal favorite are

  • Jormungand (effing gunfights bruh, 2nd season sucks tho)
  • Gunslinger Girl (though the comic is better)
  • Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (this changed my whole life)
  • My Life as a Teenage Robot (a legendary stuff from Nickelodeon and Frederator Studios)
  • Wakfu (French animation filled with huge amount of waifus)

And some minor titles like Moonbeam City, or indie stuff like Shanghai Batman (I forgot the original title, but stuff is rad)

@BlackboltLW First time hearing of Gunslinger Girl and Wakfu, might check it out.
I did hear of Jormungand before and it did remind me of Black Lagoon, when I first saw it. But it’s still on my long list of things to watch.
If not too personal, I’m curious as to how did Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt change your life? Did it give you some new inspiration for art?

Yes.

This is my artwork before Panty and Stocking

This is after Panty and Stocking (and constant struggle getting used to drawing tablet)

I was aiming for “semi-realistic” style back then, you know, details and shading and all of that stuff, especially because Jormungand and Gunslinger Girl was my main inspiration back then.

But I went to “cartoon-hybrid-ish” after I took art major and seeing how dynamic most of western animation (and PSG style!) is, though my fascination on details still remains on some of my artworks.

@BlackboltLW
Uh, I see. That’s a pretty cool change.
I mean, your before and after PSG art looks absolutely amazing to me, but I do understand the appeal of the cartoonish art. It’s in a way more fun, I think.

I really like the looks of your OC’s, as well. Hope you’ll be doing a webcomic one day or something, where your art could be implemented in a neat story.

i only watch high quality animation like PSG watching other anime with that standing still and only mouth moving makes my head hurts

(Gainax Intensifies)

the show also is one of the anime with unique original soundtracks.

i cant find the school shootout between panty and the other red girl that was pretty much best part of the show

i also re watched the entire show of my life as a teenage robot.

nice taste @BlackboltLW

Recently I’ve finally been binging Steven Universe.

Dang, what took me so long to get hooked? There’s been many personal failed attempts getting into it. Must be the majority of first season, which is seems like typical monster of the week, reset to status quo episodes.

The reveal of some major spoiler element, when I came across discussion vid on Youtube, made me very curious and eager to watch.
Usually spoilers ruin thing, but in my case turned out to be an encouragement.
