An Update on Server Issues (18th Sept)

(Moobabe) #1

Good morning everyone!

We’ve been hard at work trying to nail down issues with our server partners over the past few days.

We’ve been given an ETA of Wednesday morning BST for a potential fix.

We may attempt to manually restart the servers this morning (18th) to see if that can temporarily alleviate some of the issues you’re all seeing.

Thanks again!

why didn’t you try to manually Restart 3 Weeks ago? also calling it the last few Days is quite the Punch into Players Faces when the actual Problem is going for close to 4 Weeks.

(Moobabe) #4

A “few days” is just turn of phrase, don’t worry, folks have been working on it for a while!

(Moobabe) #5

At 10:45 BST we’re going to be manually restarting the Dirty Bomb servers.

We will also be disabling FACEIT queues briefly while this process happens.

The reset should take no longer than 30 mins~

Still can’t play…

Bummed.

the server are still more fucked up than ever, you cant join 90% of them, 5% of them make everyone rubber band even with normal pings and finally 3% of them give you 150 ping (the london ones) leaving approx 2% of decent-ish servers (count 30 min to 1h to find one with players in it and with a spot for you) wich still perform way under what should be the norm leaving you with lots and lots of deaths behind corners and moments where you receive the dmg from several bullets all at once

so yea in short tonight 18th september DB is still unplayable

I’m thinking its a routing issue personally. Just to test tonight I’ve been hopping on servers all over the world and seem unaffected, ive been playing all night and been on London, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Frankfurt, NYC, Moscow and Singapore, I managed to join every server first time and I got the expected pings for their location and no rubber banding or warping (all official servers). The only server I couldn’t properly test was the Singapore one as I was the only player and the match wouldn’t start, but i got connected straight away and and ping avg’d 180 which I expect.

Oh, really ?

Please note that there were multiple signs shown by the community in the past about the rooting quality since SD (as I suppose, backed by multiplay right from the start) took charge of the server’s side of things. I still have no clue about the ping most west European people have on Stockholm servers. A regular dsl player receive 80 or 90 ms ping on those, while fibre cable players are generally around 60, which is still huge and not explainable if things have been done right.

Again, there’s been a small but still significant part of the community raising concerns about the overall quality of servers right from the begining, even during closed beta. Nexon was going the right way in the last days, but still below what is achievable with proper work on server tunings, and SD never surpassed this level further down the line.

As long as they won’t listen, they’ll be at mercy by the gross work multiplay does with UE3 servers.
What leverage do they have ? Pretty much nothing, the overall income multiplay does with the whole dirty bomb renting service (Community servers AND DB official servers) is lower than any single big title community servers income they could do.

The recipes are pretty well known to anyone who had the opportunity to maintain a UE3 game where hitreg and lag issues are a real concern. Don’t stack servers on a same machine, hardware reboot the server once a day, make sure the tickrate set in the server parameters are actually reachable for it. UE3, including the server binaries, has never been originally developed with multi core computers in mind, and by extension multitasking. Not to mention root UE3 binaries issues that are real as well.

For the sake of this game, just give us server binaries we could send on a random high broadband multi-use server we could dedicate on running a single DB server. And see how well a server hosted on such cheap system fares compared to what multiplay provides.

Multiplay is part of why I refused to put a fiver on server hosting on DB. The AIE community ran a public community for almost a year, I’ll always be thankful about that. But I shared my real concerns with Shoe before the shitstorm happened. And having one of the oldest supporting community dropping their arms off on that field, if they can’t take this as a sign, well, I don’t know what to say.

We should be rolling out a fix with our server partners soon - will keep you all updated.

If I close DB normally, Steam reports that it is still running.

I checked the app on Task Manager, and it has exited normally, but Steam hasn’t received the message from the app that it has terminated.

(Mc1412013) #12

I had that too before try exit steam the reopen steam. Went away when i had to reinstall windows from wifey generated problens

(Moobabe) #13

Afternoon all,

Our server partners are rolling out a potential fix for the server issues you’ve all been seeing as of now.

The process will happen across all servers throughout the afternoon (BST).

You may not see an immediate effect in your region.

(ASD) #14

is this also for community servers?
my server show :

Game Version: Public Retail ( PR5b RC2 reupload )

does this mean its new or old?

(Mr.Cuddlesworth) #15

Did you try to end steam next? Usually works for me then I can restart game.

(Floris) #16

I’ve been playing a bit on servers in Singapore and Stockholm and everything seems fine for now.

(San_Pedro) #17

I could play on Singapore servers no problem today. I do miss the HK server choice though.
