I’m experiencing network problems / lag during multiplayer matches
Some players have reported instances of latency problems that have prevented them from playing and enjoying the game as expected. We have since released an update for both the 360 and PS3 versions of Brink which serves as a temporary fix for those experiencing networking issues.

This update was a configuration change that altered the number of human players when matchmaking for “Campaign” and most “Freeplay” modes to a maximum of four, with the remaining spots being populated by bots. This allows those connecting to and hosting multiplayer matches * particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth * to more reliably find and connect to quality matches via the matchmaking process, resulting in less lag and more fun. This is a temporary measure while we continue to produce, test, and certify a major game update to improve the overall online experience.

For players who haven’t experienced lag, we still support full 8v8 on all maps: via the newly created “Big Teams” option in Freeplay Mode, and through custom settings in Private matches.
Until the next game update is released, here’s what you can do to improve your multiplayer experience should you still encounter problems:

Check your opponent’s network connection / ping:

Players with very low bandwidth connections can have a negative impact on the overall network performance of the game.

You are able to view other player’s connection quality easily by viewing the scoreboard and determining if this is the likely cause.

To view other player’s connection quality, press Start during a match and select the Scoreboard option to display all other players

Other Human player bandwidth values are shown on the right hand side of their name as a traffic light value. Anyone that is showing orange or red means they have a bad connection and could potentially be causing the match to become disrupted…

Note: You can also view the opposing team scoreboard since the problem may be with a player on the opposite team. To do this press R1 for PS3 or RB for XBOX 360 while on the scoreboard

Should you see more players showing RED than GREEN on their status, you should exit this game, return to the main menu and attempt to join another game on a new connection.

The matchmaking system will then attempt to place you in a more suitable game

We continue to make progress with improving the network performance of Brink, and we will be soon releasing an additional update that addresses this.

My German Version of Brink frequently ‘freezes’ or ‘locks-up’ during gameplay
Some players are reporting that Brink frequently freezes during gameplay, and this appears to only affect the German version of the game. We’ve identified the underlying issue and hope to release an update very soon that fixes this.

In the meantime, you can use the following workaround to prevent this issue from happening:

Turn the “Dialogue Volume” down completely. You can do this from the main menu or by pressing Start during a match and selecting:

Optionen > Audio > Lautstärke der Dialoge

Move the dialogue volume slider all the way to the left

Please note that this is a temporary solution until we release the fix we’re currently working on. We very much appreciate your patience with this matter. "

:DThank you Bethesda, but there is more to address… remember to check the forums, many threads adress a lot of issues not mentioned here…:frowning:

yawn nothing new?

DUH!

Update for PC now plx.

(Braqoon) #3

heh, nothing new then. I’m sure they are trying to fix Lag issue as the most important fix, otherwise game will be dead within a month.

(Bakercompany) #4

Heh. Matchmaking puts you right back in the same laggy ass game 75% of the time.

So Bethesda wants us to just keep leaving games, or kicking laggy players. Good advice =D

I do expect them to fix the lag, I know that will happen nobody wants to leave their games a laggy mess.

I think someone said earlier in a different thread that it seems like they’re cutting their losses with Brink and moving on to another project. I know its only been 10 days but its hard to argue the fact. This game got terrible reviews (from the ones that mattered).

Game Informer summed it up for me pretty well.

Lmfao @ you people. You start thread after thread complaining about the lack of a response….and when you get it….

…you complain that you didn’t get the response you wanted.

“were aware of this issue”

Nice to see an official answer but i don’t think the lag problems are related to a bad connection.

I myself use a 18Mbit connection and most of the time Brink is unplayable due to lag. I’m playing other games with p2p connections all the time without experiencing such problems…

(dazman76) #9

Be careful not to rage in the mower’s direction - you won’t win.

(Wildkarrde) #10

Ok does this mean they are even aware of any problems?
That they are going to fix them if they think any exist?
That they just bitch slapped anyone with a German copy?
That they haven’t apologised because theres nothing to apologise for?
If people want/need an update don’t hold their breath

People, calm down. I know you’re mad. You have good reason to be, the game should not have launched in the state it’s in. But it did, so we all have to deal with it.

You’re pretty naive if you think SD isn’t working their asses off to get patches out the door. Heck, the first two patches (day0 and 5/13) were surprisingly quick and just go to show that they’re not going to just give up. They put those out to get the game playable for most people. I’ve seen a severe reduction in the number of threads with people who just flat out can’t play. Now its all just complaining about this or that. Some of the complaints are justified, but a lot of them are just little glitches or gameplay choices you’d like to see made.

Anyway, before I get too long-winded, my point is that patches take time, especially when it has to be verified by MS and so forth. They aren’t going to sit here and just reply to every thread asking for an update. For one thing, they don’t want to make claims they can’t guarantee because they’ve seen how you all take an inch and make it a yard. What if they said “We’re looking into the lag and it should be resolved in the next patch.”? When the patch came out, and it wasn’t 100% perfect, you’d jump all over them for lying. So they’re playing it smart and just keeping their mouths shut until the patch is ready to go live.

(Gamer2Gamers) #12

when worse comes to come worse blame the player for the lag, lol.

(engiebenjy) #13

I tend to leave once the game starts lagging - yesterday i actually had an 8v8 without much lag at all (ps3). Good to know that they are preparing a “major” patch

(fearlessfox) #14

Try to stop skewing things to suit your cause. You make .some valid points, but this kind of trash devalues them and makes you seem like you have a vendetta instead of an objective view.

Fair enough.

In my personal opinion, the only reviewer that is 99% accurate (in my opinion) is Game Informer. Rarely do I disagree with their statements or feel they were too harsh on a game.

And their review (plus score) sums up how I feel about Brink.

Rookie mistakes.

Haha, you don’t need to go overboard with the IMOs… just quit with the bitterly vehement attacks. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Bakercompany) #18

Deal =

Please don’t think I hate Brink, I don’t. I said it in another thread there are so many elements to Brink I wish I could carry over to other games because they did them so well.

(Dopaminergic) #19

No mention of voice comm fix. Bethesda, I am disappoint.
