An Open Letter to SD/Nexon

(Thof) #1

Just a video regarding some of the recent issues with cheaters and updates to the game. Hopefully the devs and community see the frustration and realize how much some of us enjoy this game and just want to enjoy it as we should be able to.

Thanks for watching!

Lost me at “shady business practices to make money” - your right to your opinion, but seriously. Whatever happened in between Alpha to Open Beta has left us with the game in it’s current state - which is enjoyable enough for some of us to have dropped hundreds of hours into it, and plenty more others smaller but respectable sums. I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth so far. I’ll start hearing these complaints about “lack of progress” with more credibility in 6 months time, but by then we’ll have more maps, more game modes, and more mercs.

Sometimes I wonder what people want exactly to be happy.

(Thof) #3

Uhh - did you see the content of the video? The cheaters? The rampant issues with the game?

If the game hasn’t changed since alpha then it makes you wonder what they’ve done with the money they had for 3 years time. At least that’s what I’d expect of anyone who wasn’t blindly defending something that clearly has flaws.

I’m not sure what game you’ve been playing bit this is literally the state of the game and has been for weeks now.

What would make people happy would be a working matchmaking system and some semblance of anti-cheat.

I’ve played a lot of the game and I have enjoyed it for the most part - it’s the fact that I do love this game is why I make the video.

Get off your high horse mang, hard to see you up there.

My comment was purely at you suggesting shady business practices and that I disagreed. Don’t try so hard kid.

Ohhh shucks, you called me kid - I done won the internet now.
Ohhh shucks, you called me kid - I done won the internet now.
It’s late and I’m short tempered, what can I say. I appreciate the effort going into actually putting your thoughts into a video and getting it out there- I guess I’m just pretty patient when it comes to game progress, and I haven’t been invested in the game for the 3 year alpha to present period. As for cheaters, since I play very little comp (and what I have played has been without incident) all I have to go by is other people insisting there’s a huge issue, when in 240 hours I’ve seen all of 2 cheaters in game.

Anyway, leaving it to others to chime in with their thoughts for now.

I’ve stayed to pub games for the most part to avoid as many cheaters as possible, but in 300 hours I’ve encountered enough to be more than just an annoyance.

I enjoy the min. 10 servers but they’ve been a lot emptier as of late, so it’s harder to find good games to play.

As a result of wonky balance changes and less than patient friends, I find myself playing this alone if I’m not playing with people from my stream or viewers that add me.

A big thing for me is competitive matchmaking, a way to play against players of as close as equal skill as possible and a way to rank myself. For me that’s something I enjoy a lot. Without that, playing pub games for hours on end is getting a bit stale.

In RTCW/W:ET we had dedicated server hosting so we could run our own - between punkbuster and admins handling bans by hand, we were able to keep our servers much more clean. This is the issue I take with Nexon’s involvement, because this is one of the easiest ways for us to police cheating in the game. How that would work with official matchmaking servers has yet to be seen - but that’s why they’re developing the game and not us.

I understand we’ve been promised solutions, but those solutions will come when there’s nobody left to enjoy them at this point.

I’ve played from day 1, seen lots of changes and tons of progression, somethings I like, some I don’t understand but all in all it has been quite a pleasurable experience. All this rage and ranting is beyond me. It’s impossible to tell the difference between outraged players and outright trolls at times on Steam or Reddit, it’s a game, nothing more, it won’t please everyone, it’s not pizza

(Thof) #9

Maybe so - and you are indeed welcome to your opinion as I am mine.

I’ve spent a decent amount of money on this game and as a result have an opinion of my own. Obviously we don’t share it, but that’s alright too.

Cheers.

Mercs—

More mercs for sure - agreed there! That is the cash cow, release a merc that is “op” and then it is nerfed in the following weeks. This is the same model that League and Smite basically have and it works because people eat it up.

Maps—

I am interested - what makes you think that there will be more maps than there currently are in 6 months time (including Dome at the time of writing) ?

Since closed Alpha we have had basically the same maps the entire time, and instead of adding or balancing the maps - parts were simply removed entirely. Such as parts of Bridge EV escort and last phase entirely, last phase entirely on Trainyard, inside Chapel phase on… well Chapel, etc. etc.

So we are talking about a good 3+ years of development and we have Bridge, Chapel, Terminal, Trainyard, and Underground - a total of 5 maps. Five!

Not much else to say there except ask another question; In the last 6 months - what significant progress have you seen on maps? Dome is still texture less

Game modes—

Stopwatch, Objective, and most recently introduced Execution.

Disregarding Match Making or Competitive Match queueing - what else would be introduced?

If this were a game like Quake then I would agree, there can be CTF, TDM, CA, Freezetag, and beyond.

(Ardez1) #11

@quickMicrowave So many people say they release mercs and then nerf them into the ground as a way to get money, but I just don’t see that. It has happened to a total of 1 merc of the many they have already released.

Most releases people just need to adjust to the new playstyle, and the merc never catches anything significant as far as nerfs go. Splash Damage has a strong wait and see attitude when it comes to balancing. They only JUST buffed Arty and Redeye isn’t overpowered at all imho.

(Backuplight) #12
Mercs—
See Ardez’s comment.
Maps— …a total of 5 maps.
And within 6 months, I’d expect Dome to be added to the list. Aka, “more maps”.
Because there aren’t other maps in development for Objective and Stopwatch, instead the new maps used for Execution are getting attention.

Execution isn’t released they simply made it available in prototype form for weekend events. From recent streams, I’d expect a full release of Execution pretty soon.

Would I like to see more being introduced? Sure, who wouldn’t? But the game has only been in open beta for two months and the team isn’t limitless. As things stand, I’m happy with the direction things are going. That’s all there is to it.

Oh boy. “Let me make a video about hackers in a f2p shooter and then stuff things into it I have absolutely no idea about or things I dislike and let me call it critizism!”

(approvingGlow) #14

They’ve put competitive games into the missions. Not only is that a strategic mistake that will force everyone and their dog to play competitive, lowering the quality significantly, but it also forces me, who was not overly interested in the competitive part to begin with, to play with cheaters regularily.

For the missions i played about 10 competitive games now, of which 6 or 7 had blatant cheaters in them. On pubs i usually took the time, recorded video evidence of cheaters, uploaded them to youtube unlisted, after cutting and rendering them, but if i run into 1-3 cheaters in 60-70% of the games in comp, i can’t catch up with creating the video evidence and i’m starting to think there’s got to be a larger scale solution against it, than manual single handed in video evidence to get the cheaters out.

As long as you have that many cheaters in comp, there is absolutely no need to release new mercs or maps. Remains uninteresting until the game returns to a playable state.

Someone said recently that they (Shoe, I think) confirmed on stream that competitive missions aren’t actually meant to be available as they are right now and that it’ll be fixed. Regardless, if comp is a chore to play for you, you can always reroll the mission. If you’re hurting for credits I know that can be annoying though. As for video evidence of cheaters, hopefully things will improve once we have an actual report button in game.

(Ghosthree3) #16

If that were true they’d have been fixed this patch - or did they change this patch?

(Backuplight) #17

That’s what I thought too. I would’ve expected it to be in the patch notes, so I assume it’s still there.

(approvingGlow) #18

Yes indeed. Credit progression is painfully slow as it is anyways, while I’m already clicking away some of the missions like the 750** Sawbonez support XP mission that remains bugged and the “Complete 5 side objectives” missions, because if i want to finish these within 3 hours i have to break my gameplay effectively.

If i also re-roll the comp missions now, i end up re-rolling such a huge chunk of the missions, that my credit income is left severely crippled.

(quickMicrowave) #19

Keep in mind, Dome was initially introduced around Thanksgiving of 2014. As we are speaking on a timeframe of months - just to put it in perspective.

Ah, gotcha - what are the map names? I have not played Execution much so I am out of the loop on that one.

Understood, not a big fan of one life to live or Execution myself as highlighted above.

My main question was - what other game modes would be introduced beyond what we have already and Execution?

I’m sure some nifty ideas have been tossed around in other threads but I’m not entirely sure what they could hit the ground with and test out (I’m a fan of Stopwatch, but love me some Capture the Flag).
