AMD Catalyst 11.5a Hotfix RC3

(sidorn) #61

still low fps with 3870x2 …changing graphic settings to low will keep same fps…

(v0lky) #62

Wait, there’s 11.5 and there’s 11.5a Hot fix and there’s this which I assume is 11.5a RC3 Hot fix?

I’ve tried to 11.5 and it didn’t help AT ALL for me. I’m having a 5770.
I also tried to install 11.5 first and then 11.5a but it wasn’t working, I wasn’t getting any higher or lower FPS but my computer restarting took ages and my Steam overlay was lagging like crazy.

At the moment I’m posting without any display drivers and currently downloading the 11.5a RC3 Hot fix one and going to try it and after that set ThreadRenderer to 0, see if it will help.

So, the general notion is that 11.2 are still better than 11.5a RC3? I think I’ll give it a try.

(eMwegA) #64

first i thought the RC3 is better, but it makes my cpu cores run at 100% creating sound bugs and lagspikes. the overall fps is a little better but still unplayable for me…

(MaxiM) #65

And how about 11.2?

(PhYrE) #66

i did a lot of testing on my 4780 and i recommend 11.3 - gave by far the best performance for me. i tested 11.5a rc1-3 ; 11.5 ; guru3d modded drivers ; 11.3 ; 11.4
but in the end every person might give you another advice. if you got the time, give it a shot buddy. i posted some more detailed driver reviews in the ATi thread. still, might be a whole other story for your config.
regards

11.2 gave the best results for me. but im still not enjoying brink to be honest

(MaxiM) #68

Yep, I can confirm that after a bit of testing 11.2 is the best way to go. Most stable performance without those ugly hickups and crazy CPU usage. I have also gained a lot of FPS, but it still dips to 25ish at some spots

(Waaaggh) #69

Just tried the 11.5a hotfix RC3 and it doubled the fps. I have a Radeon 4870 on Vista, if you’re on Vista you have to follow this http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=344484 and look for the Vista fix for RC3, you unzip it and place it in the folder you extracted the RC3 to and run the Setup.

I play on 1920x1080 high texture, medium shadows, no antialiasing, and I get an average of 50 fps (40-60) and it dips to 30 in heavy firefights but NEVER 20’s like before even with shadows off.

Brink still crashing on splash screen.

CPU: Phenom II X3
RAM: 4Gb
GPU : HD4890 1Gb
OS: Win XP Home

Installed 11.5a hotfix RC3 and getting better FPS than on previous (10.12), which was better than 11.5a hotfix RC1.

Graphics set to medium (textures and shadows), ambient occlusion and motion blur off, getting 50-60 FPS min, often nudging 100 or more.

Just to add the official link to the hotfix-drivers, currently containing the rc3-drivers:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst115ahotfix.aspx

Even if you did download an “rc3”-version from a different site, please make sure to try the drivers from the AMD-site.

The drivers posted yesterday were on the official AMD download website.

Just upgraded to the RC3 drivers against my will and i’m glad that i did. Performance went up and now it’s actually playable with high video settings. AO still is a major FPS killer, though.

Still wished that i could obtain a somewhat similar performance as ET:QW on my rig, but at least now Brink doesn’t have to look like Quake 3 on a pro.cfg to run good.
The drivers posted yesterday were on the official AMD download website.
They were seemingly from the same mirror site used for AMD downloads but they were not accessed via an official AMD link, hence we cannot verify they are identical or endorse them.

sdGjoel’s link is the one provided by AMD.

Thanks for that essentially useless piece of information.

Now how about you give us an update on the issue? As you can see from the posts in this topic, the “fix” has not fully worked. I’m not trying to be aggressive or spamming around false information like some others on these forums, but as a loyal customer I deserve an update on the issue from your end

“We’re working on it” just doesn’t cut it. We deserve to know what the problem is, and the latest information on it. Whilst badman replied recently, he didn’t say anything new.

(Joff) #80

Didnt work for me.

Close though, if they didnt spam my CPU these drivers would be o.k.

Currently using the OpenGL .dll from the modified drivers in my brink folder…pretty good…could be better though.
Hopefully in 11.6 they’ll sort the CPU issue.
