AMD Catalyst 11.5a Hotfix RC3

(NathanDavid) #21

This update has drastically improved my frames, though I do get significant drops. I’m ranging from 120 to 40 at times. I also noticed that when I enable Ambient Occlusion my frames are locked at 30.

This improved my frames. I don’t think my frames dipped below 85 at all after playing a few games on aquarium and container city. However I still get flickering textures where they go from light to dark depending on my point of view and position.

My frames have improved across the board with these drivers … generally pinned @ 60 for most maps with Ambient off and Post, VSync, AA on. However, I noticed Security Tower, which has always been the worst performance-wise of all the maps, is still fairly unplayable unless I turn VSync and Post off but it still is inconsistent and unenjoyable.

Yeah these hotfixes do nothing for me other than make the game (and audio, for some reason) choppy. I mean the game is… playable, I guess. Generaly 30-60 fps - but that’s with everything disabled through the Brink config tool. Shadows, particles, you name it. With my system I should be looking at double the frame rate I’m currently getting. There just doesn’t seem to be an end in sight regarding this issue. It feels like it’ll be months before Splash Damage and ATI get it all sorted out.

Its running better on my HD4870 thats overclocked to 835mhz with stock mem settings. Better means that ive increased from 20-30fps to a peak of around 90 fps but the average is still in the 40’s. Im surprised that an 8 year old engine is this poorly optimized. People please put up your system specs!

(jochen) #26

Mine just crashed to desktop at start with these drivers :frowning:

Intel Core i7
6GB RAM
HD 5770

Getting better performance with these, lowest is a 35fps dip with no custom config and high textures, everything else off. Before this I was getting lowest 40fps dip with textures low and a custom config to turn shadows off etc.

(sirius89) #28

This hotfix driver does nothing for me.

It makes things even worse.
Now i get constant crashes and all that stuff.FPS didnt changed at all, still drops into 15-20’ish FPS.

Seriously,it’s not funny anymore.

(kilL_888) #29

yep. i can also confirm that these drivers bring a performance boost for my machine.

in larger open areas fps still drop down to 30 or less, but i dont know if thats a software problem or my limited hardware.

can you guys atleast post what system specs/os you are running?

(Inofor) #31

Can’t install the display driver on Vista. :stroggtapir:

EDIT: Used modded packages, managed to install on Vista. I got a slight fps increase over 11.3 drivers, about 5 fps. Now the lowest fps I get is around 25. I’d guess average fps on security tower around 30 or 35 fps. I shouldn’t be getting 30 fps on my computer, but still, quite a nice improvement.

Specs:

4GB of DDR2-800MHz ram

wouldnt install these drivers, just tried them and now bricked my gaming rig. got a black screen with a white flickering line ( bit like command prompt ) and it gets stuck on loading windows.

using i3
4gb ram
hd5780 1.5gb ram

This driver improved FPS significantly.

If you’re still getting unplayable FPS, you have:

  1. Bad Computer in general (weak hardware, too many useless programs in the background, etc.)
  2. You’re probably not installing/uninstalling drivers properly

(mintuz) #34

since my main rig is bricked till i fix it, i tried it on my old system. Problem with this machine is it heats up to quickly and the hard-drive has bad sectors so I get a lot of corruption constantly. Before the driver I was getting between 20/30fps now i am getting a grand total of

… 30/50 fps on secTow
so its better but i was expecting much from this machine.

2.4ghz Q6600
2gig ram
ATI 5780 1gb

The drivers will not work with seta useThreadedRenderer “2”

If you changed useThreadedRenderer

  1. Go into the brinkconfig.cfg file and make sure you have

seta useThreadedRenderer “0”

  1. Wipe all your old video drivers before re-install:

  1. Reinstall the 11.5a RC3 drivers.

Your Nickname fits you very well. You are just an ignorant person. Hotfix 11.5a wont work for most people, mostly only for 6xxx and 5xxx users. For me it shutters and does often ctd. 11.5 on the other hand is playable and stable but gets often low fps when the action goes on.

(Kublakhan) #37

These drivers definitely are an improvement, however ambient occlusion still halves my framerate. I have a 6850, just for reference. And yeah 4est is right, you probably shouldn’t touch useThreadedRenderer (or put it back to 0 if you changed it).

(eMwegA) #38

i know because brink isnt a graphic heavy game. my comp handles bfbc2 on high settings without problems. i get with the new drivers average 40 fps on a hd 5870 while some nvidia users are begging for a max fps limitation. thats why everyone is assuming that the fps should be higher. And to be honest. If thats the max you can get out of my card than the engine just sucks  that would be another issue than…

(de5gravity) #39

omg I CAN KINDA MAINTAIN 30 TO 40 FPS!!

Seriously the dynamics of the game just completely CHANGED! i feel like i’m playing a different game entirely lol. yay!

Thanks for the advice.
I did remove all configurations using the fpsconfig such as Threadrenderer, didnt go into the configuration file manually and check though.

I did remove all previous drivers using ati uninstall tool, but I’ll give driver sweeper a try.
