Ambient Occlusion

Is there a fix for this video setting yet? I get about 150+ FPS, but as soon as I enable Ambient Occlusion, it drops to 30-50FPS.

Ambient Occlusion is a very demanding setting mate.

it only costs me about 10fps. luckily i have a good gfx card so i still get good fps

I did a bunch of testing with the various graphic options in Brink and, as you can see below, Ambient Occlusion kills my FPS. Even in the character selection screen. I’d like to see how it looks in a match but the FPS hit makes me wary of trying it out.

From this thread.

[QUOTE=Jimmy James;363177]So here is what I got from testing. I started with the following default settings then tried combinations with other settings on.
(Average FPS: 130 on a GTX 460 SE)

Anti-Aliasing and High Quality Post Processing seemed to only make a difference of about 5 FPS individually. With both on I still run at around 125 FPS on average.

Ambient Occlusion however is brutal as it drops me to around 65 FPS.

I haven’t tested Shadow Quality yet. Anyone have a good suggestion for a map with lots of shadows?

[QUOTE=Jimmy James;366023]Final report. Played for a few hours last night with Shadow Quality set to “High” and noticed no difference in the FPS.

So, everything in the advanced video settings maxed out and enabled except for Ambient Occlusion and Vertical Sync and the game’s running at around 125 FPS. Good stuff.

Doesn’t seem right, especially on a GTX 560ti as well as reports of users with 580’s ($500 gpu) having FPS tank with this setting. It seems more like it isn’t optimized properly for all users. I did dig up some patch notes from a previous update that states, “Improved graphical performance, especially when using Ambient Occlusion.”. It seems like this problem hasn’t been fully fixed.

That seems much more appropriate.

My specs incase devs read these topics:
i5 2500k @ stock speed
GTX 560 ti @ stock speed
Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR3
Asus Gene-Z

ame thing here, even with my recently purchased ATI Radeon HD6950 with latest catalyst drivers.

Actually TBO, I haven’t tried to play with Ambient Occlusion yet, but when I tick it, the FPS in the menu with my char on the right side already plummets. So I didn’t even dare to try in-game, maybe it’s different.

No idea why, maybe it’s related to another system property although I have 8 gb of RAM and a Phenom2 x4, so there should not be any problem. Maybe linked to ATI ?

I’m running a nVidia GeForce and experience the same thing. (Specifics posted above.)
