Am I the only one that thinks proxy needs a nerf?

(GeekyNerd_FTW) #1

In my opinion, I think her mines needs some tweaking.

First, i would only give her 1 mine instead of 2, and increase the recharge time from 20s to 25s

Finally, I would cut the blast radius by 20% since I will be now where near the mine and it still kills me.

What do you think?

She is, by far, the weakest engineer. Her mines are only as powerful as you allow them to be. You can easily hear them at almost all times. Also, if you’re dying to a proxy running in, throwing a mine and shooting it then you need to take note of that and jump away or shooting the suiciding proxy.

It’s harder to get out of the explosion radius after the buff from a few patches ago by long jumping as you run over them (now you take a decent hit) but it’s also much much easier to set them off in a safer way when they are planted around corners since the explosion doesn’t go through the wall and you don’t have to literally stand on top of it/go into the room very far to set it off.

Most of my mine deaths are bug related where they sunk under the ground, into bodies or didn’t show up as red for some reason even though they have passed the arming time.

The consistency with the mines (of where they’re going off) is the only ‘nerf’ she’d probably get.

(Dawnlazy) #4

Or because of killallsounds in console to get rid of a sound bug like from Rhino’s minigun resulting in Proxy mines becoming silent >:C

(sgtCrookyGrin) #5

I don’t think she needs a nerf, I just think that having 5 proxies and 10 mines in every corner I turn is fuc.king annoying XD

i do understand the sound is fairly loud, but most of the time, you will hear gunshots/explosions/other mercs dialog that it can be hard to hear.

Use a headset and you will never miss a mine

(Reddeadcap) #8

Mine’s are really hit or miss, decreasing their glow visibility was a great idea but they’re impossible to mistake with a headset on, Bomb Squad really helps against them too, personal gripe is the whole Proxy’s dropping a mine and then shooting them, but more often then not they’re pretty easy to kill if they’re trying do it.

(Naonna) #9

Having played Proxy, there’s no downside to tossing a mine into a group of enemies and just waiting a second. Since mines don’t fizzle when shot by an enemy, all that the enemy can do is vacate the mine radius before shooting it. In pubs, if an enemy shoots it before then, it still nets Proxy a free kill. Proxy’s mines don’t damage her teammates either. (Which honestly should stay in place just to avoid people being cruel to their own team in pub games.)

(KattiValk) #10

Proxy actually got a bit of an indirect buff with the jump shot nerfs as shooting mines at the tops of staircases is now a lot more time consuming. Still, she’s the worst engi of the bunch. Bushwhacker’s turret may be just as easy to hear and even easier to spot, but a Proxy mine is a non-factor with a single bullet whereas turrets take time. Fletcher is Fletcher.

(Apofenas) #11

Proxy is a pub merc. She is my most played merc and got to tell, that about 2/3 mine kills are <15 lvl players. They just didn’t learn to check corners and common places of mines. Experenced players usually don’t fall for these.

Than there are tricky mine plants behind enemy ammo stations and heal stations where people don’t expect them, but run in to take ammo/heal.

Well there is also dropping mine and shooting it. But it’s a big risk of dying compare to Frag grenade or Arty strike or some other explosive abilities.

If you check corners in “mine-dangerous” zones or take Bomb Squad augment, she turns into simple 90 hp mercs (small and fast 90 hp !@#$ with shotgun and bat). Big Ears augment or letting low level mate enter rooms 2-3 seconds before you also works - people learn best on their mistakes.

She is most annoying merc in game, but also a weakest engineer. Fletcher and Bushwhacker are just better and stronger than she is. She needs an ability buff, not nerf. She had a primary weapon buff in last patch though, but that’s not what is needed.

(watsyurdeal) #12

Honestly she is annoying yea but I think that has to do with how deployables are handled.

People aren’t punished harshly enough when someone destroys their stuff. I feel like a boolean should be made to determine if a deployable was destroyed by the enemy team, this way if it ends up being true, then you suffer a short cooldown.

This way you couldn’t immediately place a mine back down if someone destoyed it. And a distinct audio cue would be needed as well.

(Jostabeere) #13

Get rid of the Kamikazi minespam and shooting it in CQC.

(Ritobasu) #14

You know what’s a good hard counter to kamikaze and frisbee mines? Long jumping away from where she tossed them

So difficult right? I mean, they’re just as easy to dodge as stickies, primed pineapples, and Nader nades in a narrow hallwa- oh wait

(Merci1ess) #15

Well if you tell the developers that you find proxy annoying then you might get them to nerf her. Anything annoying or frustrating to play against in Dirty Bomb is absolutely nerfable.

(pinkOrchid) #16

I think she is fine as is, albeit at bit annoying when she’s on rotation. But that goes for all mercs.

(Arkii) #17

Apart from Fletcher ofc.

(Jesus) #18

Apart from Fletcher ofc.[/quote]

Havent you read the round up ? Fletcher is getting the nerf hammer in the balls next rotation

(PlatinumCLAW) #19

I say NO. Every merc is very balanced(maybe except sparks – not good at healing, not good at killing, not very nice at reviving due to health regained dropoff). If someone get high kills with proxy, doesnt means she is OP. It means the player is good with proxy.

I’m starting to think the DEVs at SD are taking too much shrooms XD
