Am I the only one that thinks Phoenix won't be that great?

Imo skills that require someone to die (either you or an ally, I’m looking at you Sparks and Nader) are pretty lackluster.

In general these mercs are outclassed by other mercs that cost the same amount of creds or are even free (lookin’ at you Aura and Fragger).

My point is that you can provide your team more support or give yourself an edge that said mercs require you to die in order to use that skill.

People don’t seem to also realize that a Phantom with Katana and Chopper will instadown a Phoenix on a right click, either apparently, and from that it ain’t long of a left click to render his self-revive useless.

I don’t get the hype.

Phoenix looks great.

Character design is thing that I love a lot.
That accent just blows my mind. (Sorry Phoenix, Phantom’s voice is more smexy, but you still have place in my team.)
Aggressive medic that basically carry heal where ever he goes and can revive himself, if everyone are distracted and focusing somewhere else. No more medics stepping on my body and leaving me to chill dead on the ground.
Also what comes about aggressive teamplay, I’m curious to see how I can team up as Phoenix with Sawbonez. Two aggressive medics in the team doesn’t sound too bad.

I’m also Phantom player and in fact Phantom is my main, so I understand very well how effective katana can be, if I can get close enough and won’t miss the hit.
But even I’m not playing as Phantom 24/7. Sawbonez and Aura aren’t my cup of coffee, but Phoenix definitely got my attention.

The thing that matters for me most is the combination of smaller details that makes Phoenix awesome in my eyes.

I get his concept, it’s neat, but I feel like the self-revive gimmick will be too slow to revive him effectively most of the time.

I feel like he’ll become the next Nader that people will shoot continuously even when he’s down.

Possible.

Though making sure every merc are double dead is just a good thing, in case some medics are around, reviving people.
I’m sure that there will be some moments when everyone’s attention is somewhere else, maybe those moments are good for self revive. Also there are sometimes those moments when you just can’t escape from dead Nader’s martyrdom.

But for me self-heal isn’t the only thing why I’m interested, but still I’m curious to see how the gameplay goes with him. That’s a thing I’ll find out when he is finally in the game.

I kinda agree, his abilities look meh. But I gotta say, instant health in a radius is pretty stronk.

And his character design is the best.

AoE healing in pulses on the move would be awesome in groups. The pulse in particular makes me think of it as an omnidirectional Sawbonez pack. Having only one every ten seconds gives me pause, however. The pulse also eliminates the direct-hit of the packs, something I’ve come to love about The 'Bonez.

Phoenix: great with a team that groups around you, can cover you while you Self Revive, and can take advantage of the AoE. Bad if you don’t have that. That’s a pretty big dependency.

And his character design is the best.

I agree.

Well if you don’t stray away from your team too much, they will usually distract the enemy from doubling down and finishing you, thus giving you time to revive. Besides, as a medic, you shouldn’t be straying from your team anyways. After you SR, heal your comrades.

I think the hype comes mainly from 2 sources.

  1. Spanish folks that finally can show their national pride.
  2. Phoenix first and foremost is a combat medic like Sawbonez and has a chance of becoming the second best Medic for comp play, because of this.

That said you are not seeing the big picture of his revive skill. Sure if a phantom manages to melee kill him, he can also finish him quick enough. Thats the same for everyone else aswell. But think about the other situations, sniper bodyshots mean nothing to him you either get his head clean of or he will come back.

Medics keep their team alive, thats why you target them first.

How often did I lay there incacipated while my team was still fighting on, dieing one by one since the medic was first to go. Phoenix can and will in those situations self revive and keep the revive train going while refilling the health of the rest.

Sure like Martyrdom people will prevent him as much as possible but there will be enough situations when he can bank on it and make another move.

Phoenix’s healing pulse is more team friendly than Redeye’s Smoke. I really don’t believe in his self revive ability, although I don’t mind it at all (I know I won’t be using it often).

I wish I can trade Phoenix for Redeye because of it because most pub players throw smoke to hide themselves and carelessly blind the rest of the team.

For some reason I think he won’t be that great.

Actually phoenix might be the merc I’m least excited about. The early gameplay videos showed how the healing ability was instant (overtime), that didn’t seem too bad, but I already hate the heal that has to be casted… and I haven’t even played him

There are people who dislike Phoenix.

However, should point out, that you seem to hate all Medics since all Medics have a power that requires down allies for it to be useful (not just Sparks). Sparks ability, in fact, is more useful than other Medics since it can be used in a range combat role as well as revive (which it can do at range). Phoenix not only has the traditional medic revive power but a self-revive. His other power is a powerful burst version of Aura’s heal station. Furthermore, should point out, that self-revive when your entire team gets wiped is useful if no one finishes them off as well as you. 5 down, self revive, a couple seconds later, 5 up.
