Am I the only one that gets Blue Screens on Dirty Bomb?

I get Blue Screens Of Death (BSODs) occasionally while playing. There appears to be a different “error” every time, with some cases having the same error like a “memory leak” and others having things I’ve never heard of. I’ve seen a few threads about this, but no one really talks about it.

From my end, this appears to be a problem with the game as nothing else, and no other games give me this issue. My hardware is running fine and my drivers are almost always up-to-date. There’s not really much I can do because there’s many different kind of BSODs. Therefore, trying to track down any actual problems is difficult. They don’t happen often, but maybe once every couple of weeks.

So am I the only one or…? :neutral:

The #1 cause of BSOD’s in my experience is heat related when it comes to gaming. You say your hardware is running fine but I have to ask what you mean by fine? Which process/GPU do you have and how hot do they run while DB is running? DB stresses the hell out of your CPU so it tends to not be the GPU but the CPU overheating.

Download Open Hardware Monitor. It’s open source/free/easy to use. Turn it on and leave it running while you play DB for 5-10 minutes. Turn the game off and then check Open Hardware Monitor as it will record your highest temp per core of your processor.

You could also stress test your processor with Prime95. If your computer reboots or throws errors while running Prime95 you have issues.

There are other things that could be causing your problem but one of the quickest and most common is testing/stressing your processor.

Okay, I’ll do that! It just seemed odd that my PC has ran everything else without issue, like new/high-end graphical games. I originally thought overheating might be the problem, but I remember checking my temps a while back and they were in the “normal” range for the CPU/GPU while under load. But hey, maybe I’m wrong :smiley:

EDIT: As for CPU/GPU, I have a FX 6300 and R9 280.

Make sure you update your graphics drivers as well if you have not, sometimes that little fix can do wonders. If that does not work, you can always change the directx version via the steam launcher and it might solve some problems. Adding a tag like -dx10.1 to the launch properties after you right click on dirty bomb in your library and go to properties, it should be there. Save it and see how it goes. You can also try -dx9. Play around with it, and see how it works, good luck.

In all my life, from using Dad’s old Windows 2000 to my current Windows 8.1 - I’ve never ever had a blue screen. I feel left out :neutral:

@Amerika

I think you were right. The CPU appears to be overheating. The GPU however is fine. I think I’ll look into getting a aftermarket cooler to be safe.

I guess DB really does stress the hell out of your CPU D: Stupid me for thinking nothing could be wrong :frowning:

Lucky you. :frowning: You’ve never had to face the horror! :smiley:

@Sploosh Get an aftermarket cooler for sure, you’ll immediately notice the difference. You could also try cleaning your CPU fan if you can’t get one for awhile.

Yup, pretty much everything I just read agreed that 60c is about the maximum safe temp for an FX 6300 under load and you’re hitting 71c. I’d definitely recommend getting an aftermarket cooler and consider checking out options for your case. Some cases retain heat like crazy.
