Am I playing this wrong?

(KAS--Will) #1

I actually ENJOY this game. I enjoy playing it with friends, I find SMART works well (on Parkour This it showed some flaws to where, I was commanding it to do stuff I didn’t want it to do), the gameplay is great, and it has some replay value despite me maxing out a character to level 14 in 1 day (with a total of about 5 hours gaming).

Am I missing something? Metacritic = 69

And this… Seriously?

Like… it’s not THAT bad…

Every game has flaws, some more noticeable than others… but this is just unfair…

I hate all those bad reviews. They are comparing every fps to freaking cod, like cod is something sent by god. Seriously what is wrong with people…

The IGNorance review is BS.

They played the broken Xbox version pre-patch for only an hour or two.

It’s not enough for a review, disregard it.

A review swayed me for the PC version:

Umm…wow, just…

IGN MUST DIE!

IGN is rating these games based on their audience. Comparing the two ratings is a bit short-sighted.

I’d say their rating of graphics and sound is unfair when put up against another such game, but the other aspects seem about right.

I’m not defending IGN, mind you. No one should take their reviews as fact, ever.

Most of the metacritic user reviews are positive. As of now (Wedenesay 11th May 19:52 UK time) the PC version has 98 user reviews. 64 positive, 5 Mixed and 29 negative. Around 63% positive 5% mixed and 28% negative rounded up/down.

As for the critc reviews its at 73/100 based on 6 reviews and thats with the IGN 65 included. not so bad really, just wait untill the 9.0 and 8.0 reviews are added and the score should go up.

As for myself, the US players in TAW that have brink have liked it. General complaints are tech and lag issues and the AI and problems with ATI cards, but the positives are the visuals, customisation, and SMART. as a W:ET and ETQW Vet the single player is of no importance so the multiplayer will be what I will be interested in come Friday. I expect patches will fix the tech probems and once the dedicated servers/netcode are set up properly the lag should decrease.

I’m just saying, I get 8 of my buddies on XBox LIVE in a match with just bots (because online is laggy, we usually just play it in a squad of 3-4) and we have the time of our lives. We used to play MW2 till the morning light, now we’re doing it with BRINK, and more are coming (one of our severely addicted friends is getting BRINK after finals).

I mean, the game has flaws, but I feel people overreact far to much, and as a future developer and currently learning about modeling and textures, sure the Frame rate sucks and the engine has a hard time loading the environment quicker than the human eye, but that’s not a PROBLEM, I’m not worst at the game or enjoying myself less.

I’ve learned from this experience (and James Bond 007: Blood Stone). That ultimately, it doesn’t matter what critics say anymore, because the best games aren’t always the ones critics say are good, it’s what you enjoy.

So fellow BRINK players who enjoy the game, and expect awesome DLC and amazing sequels… “Hi”.

To those who hate BRINK and can’t wait for their demise…

You just made my day Will, this is hilarious!

It was underwhelming at first. But then I found myself wanting to try it again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

This game is quite literally a handful of patches (lag, lobby, more maps, slightly sharper gfx) from moving in to the realm of outright awesome.

They just need to get it done fast before players move on.

I do think they for some reason want to hold Brink up against much higher standards. This comparison above is a perfect example. Although i’ve always thought IGN gave terrible reviews and certain garbage games got great reviews.

I do think Brink needs a few changes. Obviously everyone is screaming for better lobbies, and I agree. I also want stat tracking. That decision puzzled me a bit. Clearly with the objective system you cannot win by killing, not even close. But I still very much want to see my stats. Kills/Deaths/Wins/Losses/Accuracy/XP Breakdown (IE XP from kills, XP from objectives, etc). SD has made it abundantly clear they will work on the lag issues and that promise plus the initial patch makes me very happy, they care. Like they said they’re all MP gamers and they want lag free games.

Brink is extremely fun and I wouldn’t change a single thing from gameplay. My assault rifle with its attachments deals punishment and my SMG is the most reliable secondary weapon I think i’ve ever had (well and the SPAS-12).

So thats it, give me lobbies and stats and i’ll play this game for the rest of my life I think its that much fun.

Is it the overall post, like you think I’m an idiot? Or are you finding critics as stupid as I am?

I just like the overall presentation of the post, and how you posted the reviews of two games, one which is obviously hilariously **** being compared to another which the developers actually spent money and effort on. The funny thing is the **** one scored higher in every single category.

(KAS--Will) #13

THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I DON’T GET! IGN gets criticized a lot of being bad reviewers, and they are. I wouldn’t even trust them if they said their stupid.
