alternative terrain tutorial, making heightmaps from scratch

(mazdaplz) #1

if you have ever felt limited with terrain making software or you want to try a way to have more control over making your terrains i found a pretty good way to make terrains in drawing programs like photoshop and paint.net

its just one more way to get the job done

defiantly one way to get the get the job done although im not sure that this is actually anything particularly new to making terrain

for getting more control over terrain i find it helps to use a 3D app since you can actuly see the results of your actions where in a 2D environment it can be quite tricky to see the exact effects of what you are doing. especially when trying to build things like gradual slopes

I would rater take the long way and make it by hand in radiant … But thats just me…

First step can be: select two grey (50% and 25%, for example) and then do filter “clouds”. That gives the whole area a nice bumby feeling. Then proceed with the rest of the terrain.

I say: use the plugin gtkgensurf. It is already in gtkradiant.
Go to the menu: plugins -> gtkgensurf -> Ground surface…

It’s very easy.

ps: can somebody help me with my problem:
