Aloha!

Straight to business, My name is Margus i live in a small country called Estonia and i live constantly in fear of cough Russians Cough If you dont know where Estonia is no problem, most people dont know.
I started playing ET about 3-4 years ago at my friends place when i randomly clicked on ET icon on the desktop not knowing what it was and i was instantly amazed, and that is how i fell in love with ET.
About 1 year ago i discovered the interesting world of Mapping and ofc this site  Even i have tried to make my own school map wich is realy strange like some people in this forum have tried to made. Anyways this is getting too long so i will make a short Brief.

Name - Margus
Age - 15
Country - Estonia
Hates - Math, Estonian language and Soup
Loves - ET, Mapping, SD
My Dream - To work in Splashdamage as a level designer

Thats about it, i am just a regular Tapir lover

hey Pegazus!

It’s interesting but the process of recent level design has changed slightly from the W:ET days. Starting with ET:QW and then more recently with our awesome new title (which I can still say nothing about yet) :D.

The process of level production has split into two distinct roles; the initial game design/gameplay of the map and the aesthetics/environment art.

Maybe we’ll write a blog feature about it in the future if folks were interested in knowing more about it…

Cool, you guys are working now on a new project already?

I have not managed to start mapping for ET:QW since my PC cant handle that game :frowning:
And that blog thing sounds sweet, becauze that sounds interesting, cant wait

I can’t get it either cos of pegasuz’s comp too. :stroggtapir: I’ll probably start doing it, when the rtcw2’s release date is announced, so I can learn more. I heard they are running on the same (edited) engine.

Me and Sage have evil plans for RCTW2

Yeah, ill be on Wolfenstein too when it comes out as ETQW was only a learning point for me.
Maybe we should unite forces and make a project, tho what i do best in W:ET is what i do worst in id tech 4 games, and thats mapscripting.

I’m ok with that. :stroggbanana: What’s up with the id tech 4 scripting?

(murka) #8

Its seriously complex… its written in some C++ hybrid thingy. I know it is much better than ET-s restricted scripting but geesh it takes long to learn.

(kamikazee) #9

The script is not all that complex, take a look at Doom 3 for example. You can trigger “functions” there, and do stuff nicely, although it is mostly made for single-player games only (some stuff works in multiplayer mode, but it is limited nonetheless).

The thing is that ET:QW made it harder because of all the dynamic objects like objective goals. They need some configuration steps and use a different syntax to make all the special behaviour work out.

(murka) #10

I can understand the script fine, but i can’t write any because i barely know any commands and such…(full command+how to use list would be fine). I could make minor changes but not add anything.

(kamikazee) #11

An overview can be found at Modwiki: ET:QW Script Events. It’s classified on the types of objects it can be used on.

The Splash-mod-Damage-wiki: Script events page lists them alphabetically, but seems to have more descriptions.

EDIT: Hmmm, I think I’ll need to update the Modwiki.net page for the latest patch…
