Allow abilities to be activated via the "primary fire" binding

Hello all,

I would like to discuss the way of how abilities are used within the game. Currently all of the specialabilities are meaned to be activated while pressing the corresponding keys. However some abilities like the artillery strike require the player to keep the button pressed in order to allow them to channel up.

Things get tricky when the player starts to do some movement while channeling the ability. This is very easy to handle while the abilities are bound to mouse hotkeys. However for players that bind it to keys on the keyboard it gets very tricky to do as for most players the keyboard-hand is already occupied with the movement keys.

I would recommend to introduce a setting in the options that allows the player to select the mercs abilities just as you do with any other weapon and requiring it to be activated via the normal primary shooting key. This will allow the player to activate all abilities via mouse1 (or whatever binding) and do simple weapon selection via bindings. Other games like Enemy Territory did this before and it worked out pretty well.

You can do that already, that’s what your item 1 and item 2 binds are for. :slight_smile:

Oh nice… I actually didn’t see that. Only used the quickoptions…

You can use your pinky for quick abilites. Then you’re not limiting your movement.
