All modes should be ranked?

(TheAcidpiss) #1

A ranking system from 1 to 50, the rounding of rank should tighten the higher you get EG: at rank 10 players will be matched with other players 8 ranks higher or lower at 20, 6 ranks higher or lower at 30, 3 ranks higher or lower, 40 2 ranks. 45 to 50 is anywhere from 45 to 50 otherwise top players would never find a game being such a minority

IF you can reach rank 40 you will have the option for “competition mode” a separate mode for the hardcore competition.

You can have the option to hide or show your rank, if your annoyed by childish players that see your rank 32 and they are 35 and spout crap like git good kid.

I cant see any real cons about this, players that play just messing around will still be matched against others of around their own level.

Less people raging and calling hacks, because some random global elite joins the game and dominates (cant happen with this system) and if you have ever played against global elites, you would know they are that good that you would swear on your life they are hacking! lol

Match making would be that much easier, since your matching with the entire population, not 10% (or even less)

If you vote no, please give a reason why you think this would be a bad idea.

I’d like to see ranking be a global thing but at the same time I’d just like to see MM be brought to the forefront of the game. Pubs are nice for chilling and not everyone is playing seriously there, which is fine.

So yeah, kind of mixed, but I’d definitely prefer a more serious game experience with a challenge than the average pub can offer, and you just can’t get that unless you majorly luck out in MM queues or make a pre-made, neither of which can always be done.

(DMaster2) #3

Casual should remain casual, a place to chill, relax and try out new things. Competitive should remain competitive, devs just need to give people incentive to actually play there.

(Aazhyd) #4

The player pool is too small for this. On higher levels, you would have to wait for eternity to get a game going.

Also pubs are a way to quickly do a game without much fuss. This idea interferes with that. Bad idea.

(Hibbsan) #5

Exactly what @DMaster2 said. Casual should stay casual.

(TheAcidpiss) #6

this wont stop anyone from playing casually, or relaxing for that matter. If anything it will improve relaxing, since you wont have the trouble of playing against a global elite while you look at your respawn timer the entire round.

the ranking system I describe isn’t set in stone, it could be a match up between anywhere from 40 to 50 so the pool is large enough to find a match fast enough.

and where is the fuss? you will be playing against players closer to your skill level? balanced games are good games, ranked or not

(PurpleNurple) #7

Only thing I’d be down for is a world leaderboard that has no obvious impact on gameplay other than team balancing.

(TheAcidpiss) #8

the way I see it, only a small population plays competitive regardless. So no matter what they do try and fix competitive MM it will NEVER work unless the player base increases.

And the player base is never going to increase if people have to wait 20 minutes for a competitive match anyway, people don’t have time for this and with the player base as small as it is, your competitive match that you have been waiting for is likely to be unbalanced anyway.

Rank games don’t have to mean competitive (once people have reached a certain level compared to the rest of the population ,top 20% or so, thats when real competition should start)
its basically public with good MM but you can choose to see what rank you and other people are (or hide it) safe in the knowledge that every game you play, your match making will get better and better.

(Jostabeere) #9

The idea is unfinished as hell. Sorry, but we don’t need another ranking system if the game has flaws in much, much, much more important things. Dirty Bomb is bleeding. Not because some freeloaders didn’t get a CW card, not because ranked isn’t well-implemented, but because the game has other issues which are mostly ioverlooked by they guys who are making the game.

ITT: Knee Jerking

That’s the way Hearthstone is doing it, and honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it. If only they wouldn’t reset the ladder every month then you wouldn’t have all the pay2win decks at the bottom and the power balance would be perfect.

[/quote]

In fact Hearthstone has both ladder and casual mode. And you know what? If you’re a casual player, you’ll get destroyed playing Casual mode. If you were to queue under ranked, you’d be matched up against people with your power level. But in casual mode everyone is playing, so the average is more powerful than you. Especially since there’s high skill players who play in casual to try out new decks or “not-optimal” decks without ruining their high MMR.
Blizzard is in fact going to remove the Casual mode because it’s useless as all hell, and misleading on top of it.

The Ladder in Hearthstone simply means if you tryhard, you’ll start to get matched against other tryhards. If you stop tryharding you’ll lose sure, but then you’ll drop in rank and be matched against people who’re less good than you, so you’ll win again.

Plus public MM will never really get better if you can join any server at will anyway

Eg: players are in a lobby and they get MM, the lobby isn’t full

with MM there is a numbered rank anyway (you just cant see it)

team one,rank
Player
1 -21
2 -28
3 -18
4 - 25
Team two, rank
1 -20
2 -19
3 -27
4 -26

then the game starts, a minute or so,
the next player that joins is rank 48, since both teams are even he gets placed on either team, the next player that joins is ranked 10 he get placed on the team with the least amount of players, now we have a totally unbalanced game.

Tbh I would be fine if they can improve the MM in pubs where you cant see rank, you just shouldn’t be able to join any server, you should be MM into a server.

The reason I think you should be able to see your rank is because its nice to know where you stand, if your getting better and if not, seeing that your staying at the same rank, you might think its time to try and improve at some part of your playstyle.

Honestly the balance in the game has been shittier for a while now. I feel more and more that I’m just wasting my time in this game.

(TheAcidpiss) #13

I think the most important thing in any game that has a competitive element is balance.

A weapon could be unbalanced (this is bad) but you can use it also, just giving an example
( this isn’t the point I know)

But if your playing against unbalanced teams there is nothing you can do.

Balance before anything imo

Back in closed beta when they only had the game open on a few weekends they only had a ranked system available. Every match was 5v5 so they could test the skill matching system. Basically, it worked like LoL or any other game that doesn’t have open servers.

Honestly I liked that more than I like pubs now (and I do enjoy pubs) and before you get mad I’ll tell you why. What I liked about it is that you always had the 5v5 format that all maps are designed for. EVERYONE was in queue for it so the amount of players the balance system could use was through the roof which made getting balanced matches together pretty easy and you could also get a match instantly. It encouraged VOIP a bit more since it was more of a team atmosphere. And weapons/mercs could be balanced in a 5v5 setting only and not have to worry about offense/defense issues with some mercs stacking in 8v8 servers.

I really really liked that. The reason? Because we don’t have community servers. Having open community ran servers in a game is great and I love it. But DB open servers aren’t community servers. They are just random server X you join and that’s it. If we had community servers I’d be against what I’m about to say but I think we’d all have been better off if the game was locked down to 5v5 matchmaking only.

Now, it’s not possible now without ticking a bunch of people off but if DB removed all public servers and only had 5v5 unranked (casual) and 5v5 ranked (solo/duo) and 5v5 ranked (team with league support) I think it would be a much better and more consistently balanced game with structure. I’d rather have that than I would “random server #3” to join.

So I am not suggesting this be done now but I think had SD gone this route it would have made a lot of the issues were currently have go away. It’s also an accepted format in multiple games so it wouldn’t set some crazy anti-community precedent. Especially when the open servers aren’t ran by the community.

(TheAcidpiss) #15

@Amerika

That’s it, how are they ever going to be able to improve pub MM when people can join any server they want?

(Glot) #16

all i realy want is
Ranked 5v5 stopwatch servers with spec slots(or server queue) and ELO-autoshuffle.

then really your vote is more of a yes and less of a no.

You just want less of what I want?
