All classes can do all objectives. Yay or nay?

So it’s been a few good days now since the patch has hit and we all have experienced the changes first hand. I figured a dedicated thread would be best to gauge who likes it or doesn’t like it. The opinions now are a bit scattered across variious topics.

Let’s see how this poll thing works.

Before the discussion starts I wanted to inform you about your missing poll.
(And don’t forget “other” as third option)

(Seiniyta) #3

apparently poll creation starts after submitting the thread, it’s there now

(Rex) #4

Just LOL! Hahaha sorry, I was too fast.

I dont like it. Every class got unique abilities, one of them is repair vehicles which should be able ONLY for Engineers. After adding this feature which allows all classes do all objectives nobody plays as Enginner. Before this patch, there were people who played as Enginners, now it is nonsense to play as it, deploying mines and turrets. It worked this “normal way” in RtCW, W:ET etc and it was great. In my opinion it should be changed to allow ONLY enginners to do it.

(rookie1) #6

I voted strongly dislike because im not for ALL objectives that can be done by everyone

(Evil-Doer) #7

I didn’t vote because I’m part of a small player base. I’ll start voting on polls in open beta.

(Seanza) #8

Voted, though it’s highly unlikely anything will be taken on board as the forum users are considered a minority of the player base. I’ll wait for the survey from Splash Damage to unleash my tirade of feedback

(Seiniyta) #9

An important minority mind you.

(Seanza) #10

I don’t doubt that at all, but we’re still a minority in SD’s eyes. They’ll probably need a majority reaction before changing.

The most worrying part of that kind of attitude is that, in my opinion, all the people putting in the hours of actually playing this game are also active on the forums and speaking their mind/voting in these polls. The survey also goes out to people who aren’t playing much at all (if at all), should their opinion weigh the same as us forum users’? Probably not.

Can’t really judge it well in pubs/obj nor in it’s incomplete state.

(iwound) #12

love it.
removes a lot of frustration.
allows you to play with the weapons you want and still support your team.
as someone who tires of having to be engie to do objectives its great.

the idea is to have characters have their particular skills to use as strengths
in a particular moment and not just about ev, barrier,c4.

the main duties can now be shared and those who usually do the job can
now get involved more in support as well.

be open minded. you might end up liking it.

If it’s kept the way it is then I’d like my quote removed from the DB homepage. I don’t want to sound like an ass, but it’s not bringing the magic of ET at all now and I don’t want to be accused of miss-advertising the game and upsetting more people than I already have.

(Erkin31) #14

I was about to ask you a refund !

I voted for dislike but can be heavily modified. I dont want to give up this new objective style. With some tweaking it could be really good. But as long as it doesnt change drastically, it’s rubbish.

Personally I would see a hybrid of typical class based objectives and totally classless objectives.
Every type of objectives has a different class which is best at doing the objective and all the other classes can do the objectives too but at a real slow rate. Cant remember who said it, but someone said the other classes should be there to finish an objective in case the main objective class wasnt able to finish it.

(iwound) #16

to be fair to you that was early alpha.
they should definitely re-do the quotes they use
with more up to date ones.
“ET has evolved”

(fzl) #17

100% dislike

remember… rtcw , et qw, hits!

brink , FAIL!!!

more is not to say…

(fzl) #18

rtcw , et, qw, are HITS! brink ---- FAIL ::::more is not to say…

(RasteRayzeR) #19

this creates a total mess and reduces strategy to nading and airstriking everything …

(montheponies) #20

I’m in two minds.

The games I’ve played since the patch have been much faster and fluid, so with modification (ie. http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/37199-DIRTY-BOMB-UPDATE-Version-22519-August-8th-2013?p=461880#post461880 ) I can see this actually working.

On the other hand I still think this is only required because of the inordinate number of stages/objectives per map. If we had less of that I’d doubt we would need this change. I also think the medic has been nerfed to a point of being boring, the engineer should have everything and the recon should just be a specialist soldier…

So given none of the last paragraph will be implemented I guess pragmatically I can only hope for the changes noted in the first…
