!!ALERT!! D_day Map ET, Almost complete conversion of Beach!

Yes, it’s true! I went to this server.

Now let me explain , it is a little weird.

Initially the map looks all like beach from rtcw. In fact, most of it is that. But then theres a back route and an assault ramp that looks a lot like battery…

The basements are changed a lot, but also similar.

And the objective instead is to take two crates to a truck in the back!

I’ll let you decide what it is.

Most of them look like seawall, but I’m telling you it’s an illegal combo of both. I can see why it MIGHT be fun, and they just watned to enhance the map but they were arguing with me, saying “but the textures are different,” and “the lighting is different.”

I told them splashdamage might get mad at them, but they told me they’d just play until they did…

I’ve played the map, too.

My opinion:

There are similar parts in old beach and this new version.
Like the view from the beach to the bunker. But the walls of the bunker changed. The brushwork from the outer walls and texture-set is like the one in battery.

But as soon as you enter the bunker the whole brushwork and layout is different. I got totally lost inside because it’s really huge. There are new passages everywhere.
The Author added Team-Doors and a Command-post. You have to steal two things not only one document.
The dynamitable door is the same and the forward spawn as in old beach.

Conclusion:
You can see that he used mp_bach as a base, but it’s technical not possible to decompile battery (the Sd-guys would agree to this) :wink: The only decompiler (debsp) had problems decompiling rtcw-maps but if you try ET the final .map file would be total crap and unusable.
This map is a sequell to the old beach map with all new ET features but with old element the player will recognice.
The mp_beach bunker-shape fits right into the scene.

Actually I was just fooling around as a soldier anyway XP I’m usually a medic.

Anyway, I actually believe it’s 65% beach, 10% seawall, and 25% new. I still don’t think you’re allowed to this.

Plus, it’s not even that great :stuck_out_tongue:

It all depends how close the beach part is to the RTCW one.
If it’s simply a clone made manually, then it’s legit.
Having said that, I find it hard to believe that anyone would go to the trouble of that when there’s a perfectly decent (but illegal) .MAP of beach (and base come to think of it) out there.

Of course it uses battery textures - there AREN’T many beach textures in ET, so they’d have to be changed as a matter of course.

My money is on illegal usage of the beach .MAP, with other stuff chucked in to make it different.

What SD will think of that is another matter entirely.

Oh and of course it’s not impossible to decompile maps, textures included. In fact, thinking about it now, what with q3map2 allowing .ASE imports, and automatic model clip, it’d be even easier than before. A doddle in fact.

In RTCW, there were various maps made of the single player maps that were never converted to multiplayer. There was never much of a fuss made about them, and I don’t really think much of a fuss will be made over this conversion… Unless it is used in tournaments, and other leagues. Which it probably will not be, despite the fact that mp_beach was one of the best competition maps ever made.

I played ur map and it is exactly like beach. It is almost so similar that it may be illigal.

Why do u guy want to just make conversions of maps… think of somthing new and makeur own map, dont just steal other peoples.

If u just take other peoples maps it just shows that u have no creativity to make a good map.

I don’t like it because it’s way too similar to mp_beach … you really need to change it more and especially the objective. The beach obstacles need to be a little less concrete blocks and a little more hedge-hogs.

Actually, debsp isn’t the only map decompiler.

q3map also includes map decompilers, including support for half-life. Decompiling the bsp to a map was originally done by the same utility that made AAS files, rolling that into the map compiler left the bsp2map functionality in there originally, though the newer versions of q3map2 no longer carry said functionality. In fact, q3map had a far, FAR better version of the decompiler, able to handle much larger and more complex maps by comparison, though most Natural Selection maps still make it die a horrible death. :slight_smile:

I don’t have a copy handy of said q3map so I can’t tell if it would survive decompiling battery.bsp, it may, especially if you modify it to support the newer .bsp format, which I could see someone doing.

But just carte-blanche saying ET maps can’t be decompiled is a load of hooey. The tools are there, in source code form, so it can be done with a little work.

i just gotta say lay off people. If you don’t like recreation maps then don’t comment. Leave the comments to people who do like it. I LOVE recreation maps because frankly the maps in RtCW were IMO better than the junk on ET. Tank, Bismark, Beach, all of them had wonderfull memories that would be GREAT with the addition of the spy class. That is why i was disappointed with the expansion…because really i wanted to play the maps i loved on RtCW with new weapons and new abilities…not on entirely new maps that are only par or even subpar to the classics.

looks coo- to me, cant figure out why someone would post their server saying its there for download, when it aint though :confused: i been their 3 times no sign of it ???
BTW for all you rtcw haters do as the man above says and dont coment then, rtcw maps beat the crap out off E.T .
ohh and " Just mp_beach" JUST!!! for myself mp_beach is the best map of all time, now all we need is tank and SD to remake market garden and tram for E.T and i’ll leave my rtcw in its case forever :slight_smile:
