Alas, Brink is gone...

I enjoyed my time greatly playing Brink and being a part of this great community, however other fantastic virtual ventures are close on the horizon. Gamestop owns my copy now, and before I get jumped on this is not a sympathy post. My only intention is to have a somewhat farewell to a cool gaming community, before I embark on Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, etc, etc.

Hopefully I’ll be back when a Brink sequel is in sight, if we have the privledge to even receive one. Maybe I would have stayed with Brink if it had more content on a quicker basis. More maps, faster tweaking, and faster fixes all would have ensured thousands more hours out of the playerbase.

To all who enjoy the game still with as much vigor as when it was released, keep playing maybe we’ll get Brink 2. Until then I shall ride my tapir into the world of BF3 :stroggtapir:!

Good luck, we’re all counting on you. - Leslie Nielson

Gears 3 is pretty beast. I too enjoyed Brink but the lack of anything in this game got old.

My copy (PS3) saw it’s way onto Amazon just the other day, too. With Dark Souls now out (awesome game!) and Battlefield 3 on the way, there’s no incentive to hold onto Brink. Hopefully, someone will pick up my copy second hand and have fun.

Might try the tweaks on PC to see if they give the game any legs but given the community size, I see no hope for a resurrection.

Wish I could get rid of my copy! Sorry to say that, but it’s how I feel.

Still a fantastic game though.

meh, it’s whatever. For a game who’s bread and butter is the multiplayer, the MP is for the most part, more of the same. Generic gamemodes where TDM has 4 or 5x as many players (sometimes more) playing it than the other modes. Other than the Campaign and Horde mode (and the new beast mode) the game (to me) really offers nothing substantial.

Even though I don’t play it as much now since I am trying to catch up on playing other games, Brink was still well worth me buying it. Gears 3 however - definitely only worth a rent from Gamefly.

Yesterday I had one of the best Brink sessions ever(not just saying). And the community seems to stay as it is. No major drops or rises of players at a given time. The player base is not very big, but it arrived at a point of steadiness.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any reasonable pinged servers near me that have any players in them. It makes me very sad, because I love playing. It was a great week or two, when Brink was free via Steam or whatever that summer promotion was. Things have since died back down again, at least on my end. (PC)

Have you applied any kind of filter? Because there are allways 2-3 full server, 5 or more half full server and 10 or more server with more than 1 or 2 players. Its not much, definitely, but still enough to have fun through the whole evening.

Looks like EU vs USA (Munich, vs MA.). Pinging across the ocean usually isn’t good. It’s the problem with small communities, if you’re not close to the action you’re screwed.

What is an acceptable ping(actual question)? I play on servers with up to a 140 Ping. Btw. I have the impression, that Brink was more a european shooter from the start. And all the other SD titles from the past too. I haven’t played them so it’s just an impression I got from this forum. Maybe I’m completely wrong.

I hate playing on a server where I’m over 100ms. I try and aim for the 50ms mark and anything lower is a bonus, but will allow some give up to 100ms… but that’s just me being picky.

(tokamak) #14

70-80 is acceptable.

(Humate) #15

For etqw i normally play on 20ms, which is nice.
When I played the SD guys recently it was 380ms cough

Generally 70 and lower is what you should be looking for imo.
